The "Around the League" thread on Oiler HF is salty tonight. Real juicy. Though I will admit some of their posters are defending Calgary on our play so far this year.

There actually have been compliments from some of them over the last few.
Less of the "teams laying down" posts and more actual acknowledgement that the team has something going on this year. Hard to really come up with many excuses watching them. We're legit.

Presumably, like the Flames, anyone who is there for someone who isn't one of the players just gets the year as their number.
That's Russell's dad. He's realizing that these trips were much better when Kris played for the Flames.

What? Chicago's a top 3 city in America, you could even argue better depending on what you're after. It's an absolutely amazing city.

Chicago and Columbus are also fairly central, geographically speaking.

Chicago is great. Not nearly so great in the winter though.

There was a thread on HFBoards about why Mcdavid is not as well known as Crosby or Ovi and someone had a great comment i thought i would share. Credit to Hfboards poster Johnnybegood13
Quote:
Yeah no, Crosby was the most hyped kid since Gretzky and Lemieux, Crosby gave his first interview at age 7, at 12 he played AAA Peewee in the Dartmouth area and they couldn't keep track of his point totals only to say "well" over 200 points. he was so good the next year in AAA Bantam he had target on his back and routinely was pulled from games by the coach after getting a big lead, his folks even tried to sue nova scotia's minor hockey council to put him in midget 2 years early, they lost but the next 2 years in AAA Midget are legionary, leading scorer by 80+ points, MVP's and playoff MVP, then of course his ridiculous stats in junior with 350 points in 142 games.
Crosby will go down in history no only as a top hyped prospect but one that backed it up with being a winner at just about every level. McDavid needs to do more than skate fast and put up meaningless point totals to be even in the conversation. So far a McDavid lead team at any level has yet to win anything.

That isn't exactly a fair comment though, the Oilers have been brutal but McDavid has been absolutely incredible despite the dreadful Oilers. The fact that he hasn't lead his team to a victory shouldn't be seen as a slight against him but rather a statement about how bad the Oilers club is and how little depth they have.
It doesn't take a genius to watch McDavid play and realize that he is a special player who makes the league better.

McDavid is a great player. I'm not sure he is a great centre.

Yes it should.
Listen to Oiler fans for 1/2 a second yap about him or pronounce how he’s superiors to Crosby.
He plays no where near the game Crosby does and I doubt he ever will, or even can.
They’re different body types and if McSpeedy ever comes close to Crosby’s strength down low that will require muscle mass that will work against his skating economy and result in less speed.
He’s the cross over king, he makes high hockey IQ plays at top speed, but winning in today’s game requires that your game is dynamic enough to play more than one way to win.
Crosby has done this in spades. I haven’t seen anything close from McDavid besides him doubling down on stick handling, speed & skill.

McDavid skates through players like I have never seen. It's nuts and he is fearless when on the attack.
But he lacks overall grit and his complete game isn't at the same level without the puck as when he has the puck. He is still really young, so maybe he will get tougher.
This is where Crosby, at his peak, will be remembered in a kinder light IMO. He does anything he needs to win.
But you are right, McDavid has insane talent and is far from the thing holding the Oilers back. Other than his cap hit of course, which if other things were managed well, wouldn't matter.

Sure I guess, but you are comparing McDavid a fourth year player to one of the best players of all time in Crosby. Plus the game seems to be changing with more emphasis being placed on speed and a transition game, sometime McDavid is exceptional at, using his speed to blow past defenders, while making highly skilled offensive plays.
Given the time I expect great things from McDavid - that is as long as he gets out of the tire fire up in Edmonton.

McDavid is a fantastic player but he is way overhyped, and I don’t think that’s a salty flames fan perspective. Compare his production to early Crosby years and he’s behind him by a fair margin. Compare him to Crosby’s early years and then take into account how they scored versus their peers and it becomes a chasm. Crosby was a much more dynamic offensive player in his early years, seems we’ve gotten used to his more well rounded game that we forget how much he stood out in the early years. You can do the same comparison to Ovechkin and will find much the same (and then compare Laine to him who everyone is also over the top about). There’s some very good young players in today’s game but none match up to those two.
Like most players in today’s NHL I expect to see about 5-7 really high production years out of McDavid and then he’ll begin to step back a little as the rest of his game develops, much how Crosby’s career has gone. But I don’t think he’ll ever be Crosby.

McDavid & Gaudreau tied on points with 35.
McDavid has 2 games in hand BUT has had 62:12 more ice time.
Johnny plays 20:13 a night on average so in terms of ice time McDavid has played a full game more than Johnny.

But the post you quoted is NOT doing this. The comparison being made between McDonut and Crosby comprises both of their entire bodies of work in elite-level hockey from midget to the pros, and Crosby still comes out way ahead even if ignoring his three Stanley Cups.
This statement is a fact: Crosby has won at every level very handily, and McDavid has yet to lead one of his teams to anything. Ever.

With a win over the LA Kings tonight the Arizona Coyotes tied the Oilers in the Standings with a game in hand.
Edmonton is no good.

I think it's kind of sad how defeated Oilers fans are. The team has had a decent stretch and put some points on the board without making up any ground, and now the fans are in shambles, going on about how much better the Flames are. Not only are they no good, but they are also getting really boring.
