I'm still thinking the flames could bolster their top 9 with another centre. What would Zibanejad cost from NYR?

A ton. Too much.

Maybe around the deadline we could try and get a rental like Staal or Brassard. Both would cost alot but we would be set up to do some damage.

Chicago is looking pretty terrible, but Panarin would be a game changer for them.
It would also be a huge risk.

I would go as high as valimaki+1st 2019. Hes young and cost controlled for 4 years.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-zibanejad-Bennett
Frolik-Backlund-neal

Could be cup caliber. Losing valimaki would sting but between kylington, Andersson, hanifin we are loaded for future d and brodie gio and hamonic all have plenty of time left.

I think the 2nd or 3rd best center on the team, isn’t even playing center, Lindholm.

I don’t disagree with adding, but I think it would be less costly to replace him on the 1st line, and move him to C.

We wouldn’t have to replace his full production on the first line, just the difference between his production at his new spot, + a little bump.

With the way Jankowski is playing I'd rather add a winger.

Frolik + 1st should be able to land something

Too steep.

I wouldn't do Valamaki for Zibanejad straight up. Valamaki has top 4 for the next 10-15 years written all over him.

I think Kylington is the piece that maybe moved. He's taken steps o the point where it seems he may be too good for the AHL. I don't see him beating out gio, Hanafin, or Valamaki for a regular spot. If he doesn't have a chance at a regular spot on an NHL roster soon, I suspect he and his agent will start asking for the Flames to accommodate that. Meaning move me to a team where I can play.

No going to pretend to know what Montreal's defensive depth is like, but I wonder if he could be a piece for a deal including Charles Lindgren.

We need that 1st round pick to draft more quality prospects.

I honestly don't think the Flames should make any trades right now.
Both goaltenders have been playing fine. The defense has looked good. The Flames are scoring a lot of goals as well. If there's a weakness, it's the lack of draft picks and prospects in the system. But the Flames obviously shouldn't be sellers.

Let's not make a trade for the sake of making a trade. At least not until closer to the trade deadline.

What is with people still wanting to pick up waiver wire players? The Flames are too good to need other teams' trash, that is for the Edmonton Oilers of the league. Just stop already.

It may not be the most popular opinion, but barring a serious injury to the top 6 I dont want the team making any trades this year. I hope they stay the course, and keep all the depth for the playoff run.

In the off season I hope we move out a couple Vets for draft picks. This seems like the perfect off season to move guys like Frolik/Stone. Getting an additional 2nd and 3rd would be ideal to fill out our picks.

Team needs to start refilling the prospect cupboards to continue to feed the big club. I for one dont want us trading a 1st ot a 2nd in the next 2 drafts.

Kings claimed Nikita Scherbak off waivers.

Kings are first in waiver priority. Interesting they put a claim in on Scherbak but skipped out on Zykov, someone they drafted.

Do they have the same personnel from years past, letting Blake know that Zykov wasn’t worth the claim?

Blake was hired in the same summer Zykov was drafted IIRC. He probably already has his own opinion about him.

Although one Kings media member says the Kings preferred Scherbak's contract status (ends this season) to Zykov's (has 1 more season after this one)

It probably is the most popular opinion. A few vocal posters always clamoring for trades, but almost all of the proposals make no sense or are wildly lopsided in favour of the Flames.

We have a really deep young team that needs to gel and gain confidence in itself.

We also have a significantly depleted prospect shelf. Time to start restocking it.

Could be a good year to get a couple of extra picks at the deadline too depending on how things play out. Stone, Frolik could potentially be moved to Eastern teams looking for help.

I get that having them is true bonus depth for the team but if kids like Kylington or Rychel or Lazar or Mangipane fit in seemlessly when they need a body we could spare some depth and add to the pick cupboard for this draft. Depth wise it appears we are in a good position today. If it continues we have options to fast track some cupboard re-stocking.

Restocking the cupboards? No.

We have a 4 year window left (Gaudreau contract) to win the cup. You do everything in your power to win. Cupboards be bare.

No kidding. It's pretty bleak actually. Not necessarily because of poor drafting like last decade but because most of the top prospects have graduated or close to graduating and we are starting to see the long term consequences of trading away multiple 1st and 2nd round picks. The team probably should be adding picks if anything not trading them.

I think it's inevitable the Flames will be trading high picks a some point during the 4 year window. (man, I wish Johnny was signed longer)

Calgary probably moves picks to acquire a goaltender and/or another game breaker at forward, likely a play-maker type to get Neal/Jankowski/Czarnik/Mangiapane scoring.
