I don't blame him for trying to get every dollar he can. It's entirely within his rights to do so after all.
I will blame him and his advisors if they fail to sign something today though....with the Leafs or someone else.
Cause no matter what, he will never ever make up the money he loses this season and if money is what its all about, that decision is entirely dumb.

And 6.75 is what he's worth. These players are under a CBA that structures contracts where players have no control in the first one, a little control in the second one, and full control in the third. So push for as much as you can get, and then sign the stupid thing so you can get yourself to UFA and then do whatever you want. Those are the parameters of playing in the NHL. Deal with it or leave. Don't cry when you're "only" getting millions to play the game we all pay to play. Good grief...

I would have been so pissed if Gaudreau had held out for that extra 500k or whatever. What pisses me off the most about these situations is it’s actually the greasy agents who are greedy ####s. Pretty well known that Gaudreau’s agent told him to hold out and he told him to #### off.
Nylander should do the same. Do some caparables, take a fair deal, and try to win a cup with an awesome team.

Nobody - who wants to give up salary plus 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick? Salary space is hard enough, let alone giving up picks.

He'll play in Europe for a comparable salary. Not all is lost.

That makes no sense.
Saad 6.0
Zajac 5.75
Kesler 6.75
And not comparable.
Johnny and Pasta are paid virtually the same (6.75/6.66) and had/have better numbers than Nylander. If he's getting 6.75 like rumors have said, he's a fool to turn it down.

The problem here isn't with the Nylanders. It's with the Leafs. They made this difficult for themselves when they went all in on Tavares. If the Flames were to go big game hunting in free agency this offseason leaving them not enough money to give Tkachuck what he feels is market value that's on the Flames as well.

Same with Le'Veon Bell. He's not going to make that money up either. Dumb maybe if you think a soon to be very wealthy person is going to miss on a small amount of their overall career earnings but on some level you have to respect when people stick to their guns as if anything this does more for the NHLPA than accepting a lower offer than he feels he's worth.

I disagree. From what we have heard Nylander wants more than what the market value is for a player of his ilk. If the Leafs were offering him Pastranak money and he turned it down you can't blame the Leafs for telling him to sit then.

Financially speaking, nothing about this is dumb from Nylander’s perspective, as the deal can be structured such that he doesn’t come out behind from the games missed.
However, if he ends up not signing and misses this season, I don’t see how that possibly works out in his favour. I kinda hope that’s what happens, just to see the drama of it, as it’s clearly a lose-lose scenario

Yeah, I don’t know. If it’s about money, it’s about money. Why be a martyr? Take as much money as you can get.
And zero is not as much as you can get

I'm willing to bet he's going to get closer to his asking in the summer price by not signing a contract today. I wouldn't accept the Leafs offer if I was him knowing that I'm going to be traded to a market I may not be thrilled about. If he's going to end up in a market like Carolina for a good chunk of his career he may as well make sure they didn't get him on what he perceives as a discounted deal.

Leafs are well within their rights. But why would a player sign with a team knowing full well he's not a part of the plan? The Leafs have to be accountable too in this as they are wasting a prime asset to help their team on way or another. It's on them to use that asset properly instead of wasting it.
They way I see it, Nylander wants to be traded and asking himself out of the Leafs price range. Leafs want to trade him but are being prideful.

He can still take a massive deal in the KHL for the season with some under the table cash and kick backs...
