Ugly game to watch. 3rd period was nice, but would have been nice if the team showed up earlier.
Glad we got a point. The top 2 loser point getters in the entire league are in our division. Might as well start doing what they are doing.

Outisde of his goal, I really thought Gaudreau was terrible. He was soft on the puck numerous times and made a lot of bad passes.
Honorable mention to Kylington and Ryan for standout bad nights as well.

I think it would be good to put Neal on the top PP in Lindholm's spot just so we can have a one-time shot there. All those shots that Lindholm hand to turn and shoot on could have been goals.
Or put Gaudreau on the other side.

Have to disagree. Thought he played pretty well looked good majority of the game.

With this DAL game and the VGK game you can see that those opponents were able to ratchet up the compete level for stretches and ultimately beat CGY.
That's going to happen in games (opponent has jump) but it's up to CGY to be able to fall back on defensive structure, start winning battles and take the game to the opponent. I think they need to play faster (perhaps that means simpler) in those stretches.
CGY is a fast skilled team - they should be able to play that game consistently. Doesn't mean you're going to score 6 a game but they should stay in games and then be able to generate enough chances to win (hopefully stifling the opponent too).

I saw a lot of this in the GT.
He wasn't terrible or anything but he sure didn't do a lot either.
Very much 'meh'.

Goddamned Stars used the neutral zone trap.

Depends on your expectations I suppose. For a 21 year old rookie playing his third NHL game paired with a 22 year old rookie playing his 33rd NHL game, he played well. Showed good offensive awareness jumping up into plays and moving the puck while also having a couple decent rush backs to break up plays. Someone was gushing like an actual parent in the game thread last night, and while I won't go that far he played much better than "meh".
Thought Gaudreau struggled last night and that was Monahan's worst game in some time. Sean was fighting the puck all evening.

I don’t know what it is but that chemistry Backlund and Tkachuk had just isn’t there anymore. They’ve both been pretty quiet and most of their points have come on the power play or playing with others it seems.
I don’t think we’ve seen Jankowski with Tkachuk yet and that might work with Neal on the right side. Try Backlund with Frolik and Bennett again.
Or even Lindholm between Tkachuk and Neal/Bennett. I’m not seeing much from Tkachuk/Backlund anymore. Maybe Frolik is. Ore important to that line that we thought.

If Brodie had been Anderson or Hamonic two of the goals probably don’t happen. Brodie has been great this year but last night he needed to keep guys out of the crease. Unfortunately, being a smaller guy tying up sticks is more his game

I love Peters' presser last night. No excuses, stated we played worse than what we are capable of and that we got away from the details. We showed we could dominate Dallas but did not sustain.
Also, give the opposotin some credit. The flames directed almost 60 shots at the net and almost half were blocked. We did not play with that level of desperation.

Next time we hear dinosaur Don Cherry telling defenseman to get their stick out of the way because one just happens to deflect in over the goalie's shoulder, remember this game. They much have blocked 20 shots out of play.

I think Backlund has been pretty good again this year defensively, but outside of a few games has been somewhat of a non-factor offensively.
Also, i thought kylington looked good again last night. Not the most physical guy, but uses hus speed and stick effectively to defend. Had some pretty good breakouts also.
I thought the hamonic/hanifan pair were really bad last night. Couldn't seem to get out of their own way when in the d zone.

Backlund looks like he is furstrated, just hacking at the puck and not executing the little plays like he used to.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Bennett - Jankowski - Neal
Dube - Backlund - Lindholm
Hathaway - Ryan - Frolik
is what I'd go with next game on NHL 13. Spread out the scoring and have 4 lines that can motor.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Neal
Tkachuk-Jankowski-Lindholm
Bennett-Backlund-Frolik
Czarnik-Ryan-Hathaway
I'd rather do something like this. We got to get Neal going, hes a paper weight out there right now. Stick em on the top line and let Johnny get him some freebies in the slot.
Send Dube down and let him put up a ppg as the top line center on the Heat.
Backlund needs to get his head back in gear. He and Frolik should really play together. They have great chemistry.
Janko is looking phenomenal of late after a slow start. Give em some real talent with Lindy and Chucky and see what he can do. This guy could be a poor mans Joe Thorton.

It never should have gotten to OT, the team in front of him played poorly and blew multiple PP opportunities. Rittich was great.

Yeesh glad to get that point.
The pacific is starting to tighten up. Huge 2 points are needed tomorrow to keep pace with the Ducks/Sharks/Knights

The problem with taking Lindholm off the top line is that there is no one to dig the puck out of the defensive zone. All 3 of Johnny, Mony and Neal are terrible when it comes to digging in in the defensive zone and helping get the puck. That's why Lindholm works so well with that line, he does ALL the dirty work.
Johnny, Mony and Neal are all leaving the zone early, that's why when they are together, they can never get anything going because they can't get the puck.
Maybe Lindholm between Gaudreau and Neal is the better fit. Then have Monahan with Tkachuk and Bennett. Tkachuk and Bennett are willing to get their hands a little bit more dirty in the defensive zone.

Overall I thought they played pretty well last night. However, it seemed to me they were being too cute with the puck at times, and passed one too many times.
The pp should have been a lot better...maybe take a lesson from the Stars.
They should have been able to play more defensive and hold the lead near the end of the game. I think that may have contributed to the coach's negative comments after the game.
Also, in overtime Monahan should have been playing the puck instead of the man, that lead to the winning goal. He did own up to it in his comments after the game.
Also that final bump on our goalie, although he did have enough time to get square to the puck, his mind was undoubtedly still partially on the bump. I think there should have been a penalty called, as the bump affected the final result of the game.

The Sharks lost last night. "Keeping pace" with them would be losing tomorrow night. The Flames need to out-pace the Sharks.
