All-Time vs Active Points Leaders by Franchise
One of the most enjoyable aspects of being a fan is looking back at some of the greats that have put on your favourite team’s jersey. Every team has players that seem larger than life. Players that are more important to the team, and the fans. One way of quantifying who these players are is to look at the all time point leaders. Recently I have spent a lot of time following where current Flames rank in terms of all-time contribution to the team. Because it’s a slow hockey day I though that it would be interesting to see where current players rank within their team’s pantheon. In order to do this, I have made a list of All-time team points leaders and active team points leaders. Here we can see how current players are making their mark on their franchise’s history. All numbers are pulled from Hockeyrefrence.com as so any mistakes, or oddities from their website have been copied here. All active stats are as of November 25.
I hope you enjoy!

As impossible as it seems I cant see Crosby not passing Lemieux.
But talk about a gifted franchise. 1140 points only puts Crosby in 2nd place.
Madness.

Cool post, I enjoyed looking at that.
Interesting to note, if my math is correct and Ryan Nugent Hopkins is able to keep up his current pace he will only needs another 1,920 games played to pass Wayne Gretzkys point totals.
Go get it Nuge!

I am glad that you enjoyed it. For me the most interesting was the young franchises. I wonder if players like Cam Atkinson or Roman Josi will be remembered as franchise greats in a decade.

Getzlaf might pass Selanne. Wheeler, Huberdeau, Thornton and maybe Bergeron. Maybe Josi? Sundin could be beaten but more likley Matthews than Kadri.

On the day of the tie they should have to fight each other over the Festivus pole!

If Gaudreau spends his entire career as a Flame he should become our all time points leader when all is said and done.

Ballard kept sending them away. Mahovolich, Sittler, Keon and McDonald all ended up with over 1000. Also Damphousse, Pulford,
But Salming did have over 1000 with the Leafs. Not sure why he isn't listed. Same with Tim Horton. Same with Ron Ellis (and he only played for Toronto). And George Armstrong. The list is wonky.

Borje Salming only had 787 points in his career according to three different websites. Ron Ellis only had 640... maybe you are thinking of games played.
This is the list I used https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/TOR/skaters.html

But I'm correct that they traded (without good reason) a few guys that made 1000+ points. Like Sittler and Lanny. Keon would have beaten Sundin too - he had one less NHL point but also spent a few years in the WHA.

This was a fun read, Thanks for posting!
You may consider changing the active player for Montreal though, Plekanec retired.

Actually 1140 points puts Crosby in 2nd place (at best) on 14 NHL franchises. Really special how most teams have had a great player.

yeah he'd be 5th on Detroit (not sure if any others like that) something like 600 points out of 2nd
some of those are interesting. I wouldn't have guessed Alex Steen 6th all time for StL as one example

Did you just suggest that Bergeron might pass Borque in points? I'm a Bergeron superfan. I have one of his jerseys hanging on my wall, but there's no way in hell. He's 33 years old and he doesn't even have half of Borque's point total.

I never realized that Iginla scored almost as many goals as a Flames (535) as Gretzky did as an Oiler (583).
