Sounded more to me like he thought since they wavered on the initial call, that there was room enough for doubt to make them losing their time out worth them taking an extra look to decide.
The rule does seem to state it will be ruled no goal if the contact is in the crease. It does NOT however say it is to be ruled a goal if contact takes place out of the crease.
I feel like we got burned on this technicality before very recently, no?

If I were a Jets fan, I would have been supportive of trying the challenge there, even if you are likely to lose. There’s enough inconsistency in judgements to give it a shot. It’s an important potential goal, and just costs your timeout if you lose.
Based on the rule posted above though, there really is no chance of that being overturned.

Without a review, this doesn't appear intentional. When you have the review I would say it was intentional. Trouba makes contact with DR and doesn't look back at all.
I would think he would glance back to see if it was accidental. He just keeps skating and hopes no one noticed and probably hoping the defensemen beside him causes some second guessing.

The refs called no goal due to goalie interference, and no penalty. I posted the rule that fits with that decision, which is what they used. So they deemed Rittich to be “in the crease”. If they hadn’t, they would have called a penalty or called it a good goal. There is a table of situations in the rule book.
|
They didn't 'clip skates'. Rittich was standing still. Trouba skated by and his skate (accidentally) slew-footed Rittch (for lack of a better word).

I thought it was a good coaches challenge. Maurice's comments were basically because the call on the ice was changed it was a reasonable gamble to make. He wasn't upset they did it or making a beef, just providing reason for the challenge

I assume, the ref determined that Trouba did not try to avoid contact

End of discussion. Trouba made no effort to avoid Rittich. And the contact with Rittich's skate resulted in him falling down and being unable to make a save.

Regarding Maurice: absolutely he should challenge there. If I'm a Jets fan and he doesn't, I'm livid. It wasn't likely to get overturned (IMO), but when the refs confer and then change their call, and it's a potential goal that gets you back in the game, you HAVE to challenge. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.

If he wasn't so busy picking pucks out of his net last night maybe Buff would have had some energy to take Rittich's challenge. I see at HF last night you call the Flames a "bubble team". What does that make the Jets seeing they are behind the Flames in the standings?

It is such a crap shoot sometimes with these refs and the decisions they make about these kinds of things. I get what Maurice is saying but Rittich doesn’t go down and that puck doesn’t go in if he isn’t touched by the Jets player. Accidental or not, you can’t call that a good goal and I’m glad they didn’t. Blue paint doesn’t matter.

While I do like to periodically check in on the pulse of opposing fanbases I've always felt it's a little disingenuous to create profiles on opposing fans sites seeing the only reason to really do that is to troll. Not saying you are trolling at CP because there's more here than a just the Flames talk but at HF it's all hockey and I don't feel like arguing with a mob of Jets or Oilers fans.

Past few? You guys had a great season last year but now your goaltender has come back to earth you're in the same ballpark as the Flames.

It’s kind of ironic that you called the Flames a bubble team when the Jets were a bubble team for the previous 4 years and should’ve made the playoffs the year they got Laine. They perpetually underachieved and finally played to their potential in the playoffs, only to lose to an inferior team in the conference finals. Jets are legit but I just find it funny to use the term bubble team with so much certainty when each year certain teams take big steps forward and other stagnate or regress. As a Jets fan you should know this. Look at the flames top 4 scorers, is that bubble team status to you? And no I’m not gonna make an account on that garbage site to debate you.
