Wow, a Blood Clot for Stone, that really sucks.

It seems as though Blood Clots are becoming something of an epidemic in today's NHL.

I wonder if Prout gets recalled from his conditioning stint, or if they might give Kylington a look?

With Frolik going on the IR, you'd have to think a forward will get called up since they don't have any extras right now. I wonder who? Rychel, Quine, and Lazar have all been playing well in Stockton.

Since Prout is on a conditioning stint, he still counts against the 23-man roster, so recalling him would give them the option of recalling two forwards.

Might not mean anything as it has a history of having mistakes, but FWIW Flames website has Peluso on the roster.

Why are so many athletes getting blood clots these days? Better detection/diagnosis or something else?

I wont argue that. Doesn't mean you just trade him. Lots of teams trade for D depth at the deadline. We already have it. Why mess with that? And what will we get for him, maybe a 4th or 5th rounder?

I am absolutely not advocating a trade, but I wouldn't be surprised if Stone is having this conversation with Treliving.

Pre blood clot he may have been having a conversation about ice time and opportunity, but I would bet that if that conversation was even happening, it is now naturally shelved

Scary stuff. Best wishes for Stone to get better

Wow a blood clot sounds very scary, hopefully everything turns out ok. It’s been a very hard season for Stone who I think is much better than he gets credit for

That's pretty scary. Hope Stone gets better as soon as possible.

Have Prout finish his conditioning stint, roll with just the six defence on the roster until you need to call him up.

Let Kyington continue in in the minors. Imagine four blue liners under the age of 22 on a Flames roster, three of those rookies? It's enough to make you faint.

Arm and leg blood clots are quite different thankfully. Much less frequently encounter pulmonary complications. Depending on whether he gets his first rib removed, he could be off blood thinners and back to work in a month or two.

For reference, Kreider, Stamkos, Vasilevski, and Pelech all had their top rib removed to treat arm clots. If I recall, Kreider’s did in fact have lung issues.

What happens if someone goes down in warm ups though?

You have to have a guy available.

Wasn't Regehr in town last night?

True, hadn't thought of that. Prout's played one game in the AHL, not ideal but get him back up here.

I'm very confused...why would removing a rib help with blood clots?

From the moment he landed in Calgary yep. really stymied his one year here. I still think there was more to him he just never got the chance. He met Hartleys dog house fast and often.

Yup, usually 6 months minimum.

Was just looking at Blood Clots in arms.

The treatment is mostly therapy, he has to wear a compression sleeve, elevate the arm as much as possible and take blood thinners. The usual treatment period is 3 to 6 months. If it doesn't go away or its large, there are other options up to surgical removal.

It can basically kill you if there's a break away.

I’ve heard speculation around the time Stamkos was diagnosed that it is possible that some supplements taken by athletes are a possible cause to the increase in blood clots in athletes.
This is of course pure speculation and should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Blood clotting is a known effect of performance enhancing drugs or techniques, such as blood doping.

That's terrible news about Stone, I was thinking it was really strange he wasn't at practice today. Was hoping it was just something really minor, hope he gets through this ok.
