Lindros wasn't slow. And in today's NHL Stevens would be suspended out of the league.

No he wouldn't. Lindros was a solid skater. Would have no issue playing today and would probably still be considered as one of, if not the, best player in the league. He's like a stronger Ovechkin at his peak.

I remember Lindros just manhandling the Flames. Michel Petit got a huge cheer because he managed once to stand him up at the blue line.

What do you mean until? Stevens was in New Jersey when Lindros started his career with Philly.

In today's game? You're forgetting all the advancements we have made since the long ago 1990s. Other than the invention of fire since then, you're forgetting he played at a time when players didn't even have bionic enhancements. Imagine a hockey game where players weren't shooting lazers from their eyes.

It's not like the 42 year old Jagr was still able to play in "today's game".

You're forgeting about the guy up north who could shoot fire balls out of his arse. I remember when Lindros made short work out of Jumbo Joe.

Lindros and Jagr were easily the best players I ever watched between the WG/ML -> SC/AO eras.
Injuries aside, Lindros was probably better than Crosby.

Lindros had injury problems, and difficulty keeping his head up coming across the blue line, but no player since has dominated in so many aspects of the game as he did. When he was actually on the ice, he was the alpha male-you couldn't overpower him, outrun him, or hope to fight him. Somebody in the media nicknamed him "The Prescence"because everyone was aware when he took to the ice. Lord only knows what his numbers would look like without injuries taking thier toll. He was always one of my favorites to watch.

Nah. Lindros was the best player on the planet for a while. That Legion of Doom line was something else. And it was led by Lindros.

I hated how he handled the beginning of his career. It sucked, he sucked and those who supported it sucked. But once you get past all of that, the guy was worth the price of admission. And in the world of what if Mario Lemieux didn't have to fight Hodgkins Lymphoma would he best the best player ever, stands the very same argument for Eric Lindros and his concussions. Dude went from literal beast incarnate to just a good hockey player in such a short period of time. And yeah the NHL on the whole back then really screwed the pooch with the concussion stuff. We lost two potential generational careers for sure in Karyia and Lindros.

Orr's knees is the biggest what-if to me. Had his first knee injury before he even started his NHL career. Orr on one leg was still the best skater in the league. Imagine him with two at his prime...

Then Lindro's injuries. Never really got a full injury-free season. Might not have truly seen his prime. But when he was playing at his best, he was a beast.

And then Lemieux's. Still an issue, but at least we saw prime Lemieux. It was more about how many points he could have finished with, but still wouldn't have reached Gretzky's.

The Orr situation is the saddest because about 10 years later it was totally fixable surgically.

I've sometimes thought about how many points Theo Fleury would have had without his issues. IMO his talent level was right up there with the top of the game at the time. Not like Lemieux, but at least with the likes of Sakic. On the PlayStation, he and Lindros on an all star line were unstoppable.

It's still funny seeing how some fans think Lindros was overrated. I'm not old enough to follow 70's hockey but I don't think there's ever been a player that had Lindros combination of size, strength, skating, and skill. In a lot of ways he was more special of a player than guys like Crosby and McDavid because he had their skill level in the package of a big power forward. He wasn't Gretzky or Lemieux skilled but close and had a physical element to his game neither of those players had. Really special player and it's a shame he wasn't afforded a longer career.
