I didn't hear this discussion from Derek Wills, but there is NO WAY IN HELL he is a professor of Fence Sitting. That guy lobs out some of the most ridiculous homerific theories in round table discussions that I am sure generate eye rolls from his peers. I have actually liked Pinder taking him to task on a few discussion, since he moved to the afternoons.
Wills can be a tad annoying in PBP, but he at least keeps up with the play.
I loved hearing from Maher the other day, but did he always interrupt his cohorts like that? He never seems to let others finish a sentence.

He will make very homerific claims but usually back pedals off them or qualifies them by attributing it to “some people may say..:” etc...
I have noticed Pinder call him out a fair amount since moving to the afternoon show and I’m glad that he does it, you can tell it gets under Wills’ skin

Loved this from the Sportsnet NHL power rankings:

25. Edmonton Oilers
Todd McLellan takes the blame for not building a real team around the most gifted hockey player in the world or saving an average amount of shots. The Ken Hitchcock experiment inspires us to fire up a batch of Jiffy Pop. Grade: D

he made a very odd comment (i want to say last week) about how if mike smith gets the net and loses, he won't like what social media would say, but ryan pinder might since he loves to be a hater
......excuse me? pinder isn't some andrew walker-esq hot takes guy just looking to poop on stuff, he calls out the coaches decision to use smith long after it was apparent to everyone whos not brown nosing the people he works for that it was time to give rittich(or anyone they can pick up off the waiver wire) the net for a while since smith was god awful. his incessant need to appeal to authority for everything in a smug ass voice like he knows best because management made the decision(and we know that nhl coaches an executives are immune to mistakes) while trotting out platitudes you'd hear from a dive bar in the 80s just make him utterly unlistenable
i tried to give him some time because he didnt resonate with me at first, and i thought it was just because nobody can fill the shoes of peter maher, but he just sucks

Now, I wouldn't go that far. He is an upgrade on just about any member of the Coiler Propaganda Department I can think of. He annoys me sometimes, he could try to sound more objective at times, but I would never wish him to Edmonton. That's over the line.

Wills has grown on me. We were spoiled forever by hall of famer Peter Maher,
no one could fill his shoes.
It is radio pbp after all, it's not like any of the other guys I have listened to are much better. And some are remarkably worse (that guy in San Jose comes to mind).

To me he's both a homer and a fence sitter. He often answers a question with "Great question - what do you guys think". On the other hand, he toes the party line for the most part.
He's an OK PBP guy - his goal call has gotten quicker and less squeaky. But he's not an "NHL Insider" no matter what they call him. Neither was Maher, but he knew a little more and sometimes could get a tidbit about non-hockey stuff.

Wills and Lou on the radio play by play are fantastic. They work really well together and I enjoy listening to them.
We are lucky to have them.

Now, the Oilers broadcast guys... Randorf's "Sam Monahan" and Louie's constant Tkachuk whining, why do we have to endure these guys on our home game broadcast?

They are bad, but miles ahead of Quinn/Remenda.

Yup, you nailed it. I don't hate his PBP but I really dislike his "NHL Insider" spots on 960.
"Admiral Vanilla" is such a great name for him

I don't mind Wills. He's not great but he's competent. It's a difficult gig because it's rare to find universal love for a lot of PBP guys but he's miles better than the Flames TV PBP announcers we have had in the time between Whalen and Ball.

It does seem like every BOA we have to endure Oilers homer broadcasters even if it’s a home game. Delusional fans need to listen to delusional commentators to reinforce their delusions. I’m sure Oilers fans would sign a petition claiming some sort of infringement of rights if they had to listen to Ball and Hrudley call a BOA, which they never do.
