Gross. Kesler wishes he was as classy and tough as Bennett.

Classy is an odd descriptor of Bennett.
I suppose he's classy relative to Kesler
But then again Andrew Dice Clay is classy relative to Kesler.

As far as Classy goes:
<Bennett is about here
<Kesler is way down here.

Don't see that myself. I see Bennett as much more physical but not having as much hockey IQ as Langkow.

Yeah well there were multiple things I could have put so I lumped it under classy.
Bennett doesn't constantly whine, he doesn't dive, he doesn't turtle, he doesn't look like he is pouting all the time, he isn't American.

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that Benny didn't turn out to be a top notch scorer. Otherwise, imagine having to sign both Chucky and Benny with top dollar. The role he plays now fits the team well.

Oooh a Calgary vs Winnipeg game would be really sweet!
"Battle for Saskatchewan"
A Battle of Alberta would also garuntee some very profitable ticket sales. Too bad they couldn't do it smack in between Calgary and Edmonton like Red Deer to get a pretty even draw from both fan bases.

15. Several restricted free agents (Brock Boeser, Patrik Laine, Mikko Rantanen among them) have made it clear or agreed with their teams they’ll wait until after the season to talk contract. At last week’s GM meetings in Toronto, some of the managers said they feel others are waiting to see if William Nylander sets the market over the next 10 days before doing anything. (This note’s for Joe Pavelski.)
I think this one would also impact the Flames as well, since Chucky is our pending high profile RFA this summer.

Laine's situation compared to Chuck's will be interesting. He made a bigger splash than Matt, but Matt's a way better all around player. There's as better players than Laine on Winnipeg (Scheifele) and other really good ones (Ehlers/Hellebuyck), and they are on really good contracts. However, Wheeler jumps to $8.5 next year and they also have to sign or deal with Connor, Trouba and Myers.

I don't think Matt can really use Laine as a comparable though. I know he's a better all around player but Laine is a pure scorer. Last year he had almost as many goals as Tkachuk has points (although shortened season). In this league though, scorers always get paid.

This year he has as many goals and many times more assists.

I think they're hard to compare as players. Laine has a .85/ppg in his first three seasons, whereas, Tkachuk has a .74/ppg. Goal scoring always gets a premium but GMs love the intangibles that Tkachuk brings. Tough to say but I think it's fair to expect Laine to get paid more than Tkachuk.

Players who can put up 40 goals are in their own category. I’m a big Tkachuk fan, but Laine will get at least $1mil more per year, my guess.

Skating is one of those things you can work on and improve. Sam is a lot stronger on his skates than he used to be, and if he's willing he can get a lot stronger

There’s a long way to go, and not saying he’s on Laine’s level, but Tkachuk has 11 goals in 21 games. Good for 42 goal pace.

Not a center (although Bennett is a better wing IMO anyway), but if Bennett can get his scoring up a little, I can see him being a Dustin Brown kind of player.
A little nasty, good hitter, hard worker and agitator that can score.

If Bennett brings the on-ice defensive benefits and clutch goals of a Kesler, without the crap, I'm all over that. Kesler is a tremendously useful hockey player.

Let's not get silly now. It's not a blessing, it's just plan B. It's always better to have too many great players, than not enough, especially when those players were selected at the top of the Draft. If you have too many, you trade them for high end picks or prospects.
