$2.375 million is 2.98% of a $79.5 million cap this year.

I would qualify that as insignificant.

In the cap world, every available $ can be significant. Every year teams add players in the offseason for little more than league minimum that contribute a lot more than Lucic.

With the loss to Vegas, the Oilers now have 1 win in their last 7 games. With 19 points, they need to be at 22 points to match Vancouver for the Pacific 3rd seed or 24 points to catch Colorado/Dallas for the wildcard spot.

With only one more game left (@ San Jose), even if the Oilers win, they're not going to be in a playoff spot by US Thanksgiving.
