Have you actually looked at the contract structure? It’s setup for a buyout after this season.
Buyout saves nearly 2.5m next season and only adds 600k for 4 years following the contract expiration.
That isn’t buyout proof.
Anyway, E=NG regardless and my original point that the oilers won’t be able to hide behind their goons stands. Sooner or later Draisaitl is going to have to fight his own battles.

Apparently the contract is mostly bonuses somehow, so even if they buy it out the bonuses still apply so there’s very little savings. It also means they can’t retain salary to move him.

I know that a lot of people think that, including a few on this thread tonight, but it’s not really true. He’s going to get paid the majority of the contract but there are significant cap savings to be made by buying him out next summer.
They’d be stupid not to. So I guess maybe we do see him sticking around after all.

Usually only franchise players get bonus structures like that. Oilers over pay him than ####ing give him a bonus structure like that good ####ing lord. Somehow the Lucic contract is worse than i originally thought. U would expect that the avv would be a bit less with that structure but nope, the Oilers gave a 3rd liner both the high avv and bonuses hahahahaha
