Lindholm has high potential to be my favourite current Flame(Tkachuk making it tough). Unless i'm forgetting something else, this is BT's best trade, imo.

Flames Acquisitions:

GP: 40 G:11 A: 17 P:28

Hurricanes Acquisitions:

GP: 38 G:12 A: 7 P:19

And individually both Lindholm and Hanifin have more points than Ferland and Hamilton.

Lindholm truly has been a revelation and such a complete player. He's going to be a huge part of the team for years to come.
Hanifin is looking better and better as well, once he fully hits his stride, he's going to be a star.
I honestly didn't think Treliving had it in him to make this kind of insightful trade of future potential vs current value. I was wrong.

I honestly can't believe how awesome Lindholm is. I was always making fun of the 'Canes for selecting him over Monahan, and up to this point in their careers it was justified.

Now, he's quickly becoming my favorite Flame. Just an unreal player. The part that shocks me the most about him was that 'Canes fans were going on about he had a muffin of a shot, hence only scoring 17 goals as his career high. Yet from what I see, he might have the 2nd best shot on the entire team. Not sure if he spent all summer working on it. But it's actually one of his biggest assets. He can pull of one-timers quickly (something the team desperately needs) and has a strong accurate release. He's going to smash his career totals and IMO is BT's best trade to date.

I can't believe we have both him and Monahan.

Lindholm will without a doubt be my next jersey purchase. He’s like a wing version of Backlund with more finish and speed.

Also Hanifin has more points than Dougie while getting little pp time. Awesome trade

Was not expecting Flames to hold edge in year 1 of the trade. Nice surprise.

By year 4 and 5 it is not clear anyone on the other side of the trade is even still a Cane and if they are it is with big UFA contracts.

He said he worked on his shot in the summer.

Exactly why you don't just go an assume that if a player struggles with an improvable part of their game that they won't actually go and improve it.

I love his cycle game, his compete level, and his all-around game. It's been a great fit on that top line, but even if he didn't fit there well, there's no doubt that he has the type of game that championship teams crave. He's the type of player that puts good teams over the hump into the "great" level.

If Rittich becomes a solid #1 goalie, we have the makings of a legit playoff threat this year. That has me very excited.

Lindholm is hard on the puck. He actually fills a lot of the holes that Ferland left on the team - strong on the puck, strong in puck battles, strong along the boards, wonderful shot and responsible defensively. Ferland I thought was very underrated with his ability to make plays, but unquestionably Lindholm is another step beyond him.


Ideally, Flames sign Ferland for a sweet contract when he hits UFA... but that's not going to happen. If Ferland wants to wait until free agency hits, he is going to get to pick out of what I expect is a long list of suitors. There isn't a team in the NHL that wouldn't have a need for Ferland.


With that being said, it was a good trade for Treliving, especially with Gulutzan gone. Giordano - Brodie by the eye test is a much more effective pairing than Giordano - Hamilton, and Hanifin - Hamonic blows out the often disjointed and uncomfortable looking Brodie - Hamonic pairing.


The team misses Ferland's toughness, but Lindholm is very hard to play against. He really does have a strong dose of Peter Forsberg in his game.


If Bennett continues to improve, and if Rittich continues what he has been doing while Smith regains at least some of his form and gets back to playing even .900-.910 (still below average, but definitely plausible), this team can get on a really nice roll, and be a very dangerous match-up to any team in the playoffs.

I disagree. Consistently led the team in hits. Hard on pucks. Stood up for his teammates when needed (remember the Roussel dirty hit on Stajan, for instance?).


Did he play like a cannonball every single game like those playoffs you mention? Of course not - he himself got injured late in the Vancouver series playing that way, and limped into the Anaheim series and then got scratched due to injury.


Ferland commands a great amount of respect on the ice. Kesler trying to act like a tough guy last playoffs until Ferland got in-between him and Monahan.


I still do that trade, but without question the Flames miss Ferland's presence on the ice.

I cringed whenever Ferland fought because of his concussion history. That said, he never really fought the tough guys - mostly the a-holes (Bieksa, Rinaldo, Roussel).

This year he fought Erik Johnson, though, who is not a goon, but he is huge.
