Man, I know it's first world problems and it's just a game, but this game has seriously ruined my night, and I'm feeling really bummed lol. Now I don't feel like doing anything. Might as well head off to bed early...

I think Backland’s penalty was out of frustration for the third goal.

If you think 1 or 2 goals a game is going to consistently win in today’s NHL, you are sadly mistaken.

If they finish tonight, they win, despite Smith’s poor performance.

Not rocket science. Aside from poor goaltending, the Flames are not producing enough goals.

Structurally, they are much improved defensively.

Need to put it all together WITH better goaltending.
The Flames are 13th in the league for goals with 58. The Flames are producing enough goals.

Lou: smith looks like he's not confident

Sigalet: when you're confident you let pucks come to you. When you're not you start punching at it and start making holes for yourself
He' s been really good in practice and working really hard
But he seems to be trying to overcorrect after making a mistake. Starts trying too hard
How does this guy have a job? 3 straight years of goalie implosions.

I agree. Calgary has got to have one of the worst media. Just complete wussies who never have the balls to ask tough questions.

Yup, on broadcast too last games you can hear Ball and Hersey try and pump Smith up a bit, Hrudey knows all too well about the mental strain...and coincidentally with Price in town, battling those same demons the last bit, and himself looking out to lunch at times tonight, drives it home how much of a mental spiral things get to for top end goalies, and no amount of coaching or words or training or positive thought can truly and easily get rid of the “yips”.

Which part of the “ last 4 games “ did you not understand?

They were 3rd in goals for 2 weeks ago.

Honestly I give props to Peters and how he's trying to instill his confidence into Smith. A good coach does that but unfortunately this is one of those situations where everything is internal. I hope Smith practices and finds his fundamentals and confidence that turn into habit before he starts again.

A long break and reset from the reigns will be good for Smith and hopefully Rittich is ready to run with it for a while.

The rest of the team looked amazing though. Every line seemed to have chances when they were on the ice. Ultimately, things are actually looking pretty good.

Price was great. Smith was garbage. Habs lucky to get one point, let alone two.

Just heard Smith's post-game interview. He completely owned the 3rd goal, and said those kinds of goals can't go in, especially when your team is playing as well as they were in that game. Good to hear he's at least being honest with himself.

Smith on 960

No idea how the goal went in. Can't happen
Letting your team down is the the most frustrating and disappointing thing in your career. When it's on you, it's really disappointing

Asked if he's had stretches like this before: absolutely. Have to work hard, practice and work your way through it. Grind your way through it.

Felt good coming in. Had a nice week of practice. Worked hard to find it and get the confidence back

No idea how it got through me.

Try to get some sleep tonight, come back tomorrow and get back on it.

..................

Smith wasn't hiding from it. A bit sarcastic but that came across as a guy who is really frustrated with himself. Handled the questions professionally in my opinion.

You have to go with Rittich next. But I will admit I appreciate smith owning it.

Our goaltending woes really puts into perspective how good Kipper was and how valuable he was to this team

NO.

This was that moment, right here right now and he sunk... I'm sorry, but if they go back to Mike Smith after the monstrosity that was tonight. Well then they're saying that they value treating Mike Smith like a #1 goalie more then anything in the whole goddamn world (including their own jobs).

Everyday I just think that Wills is afraid to say anything bad about the Flames - I get that it’s his employer, but I’m not sure why they have him on if he just pumps their tires all the time. At least now Pinder calls him out on it in the Afternoons; and Wills gets all defensive.

Listening to Loubo and Wills on my way home from the game makes me want to puke in my mouth. Trying to deflect it away from Smith and put it in the shoulders of “world class goaltender” Carey Price.

Loubo needs to go back to covering junior hockey. I don’t give a #### if he’s a nice guy or not. He’s paid millions of dollars to stop the goddamn puck and no one in this organization owes him ####.

Lombardias correctly points out that Smith couldn't handle that post game presser any more professionally than Smith did.

The non call on Bennett in the 3rd was brutal. Then smith #### his pants

Man, if I was Peters, I would consider only starting Smith for 6 or 7 of the next starts and if he was still bad I would reassess starting him again.

+ 1. Wills seems like he’s afraid to be critical because he’s a lousy play caller and afraid he’s gonna be fired. Always blowing sunshine up someone’s ass.

I really like Wills and Lou.

Perhaps it is because I live in Edmonton and see what the alternatives can be.
