Yep. Contracts, history, the NHL veteran bias, all that stuff factors into these decisions at the management level. You can bet Peters has his marching orders from Treliving - not on a game by game basis, but to keep Smith as the number one. Peters will only make the call to go with a tandem system, or run with Rittich as the starter, once Treliving gives him the go-ahead.

The problem is team has never been fully stacked since 1989. Every year is a different issue. Good goalie? No depth or elite Center. Good forwards? ####ty goalie or weak defence. I’m tired of always having a missing piece. Just once in my adult life I would like to see the Flames with a complete team.

I just have a hard time believing that Peters would keep starting Smith with the horrendous goaltending that he has seen in his coaching career. You'd think he'd be running Rittich hard.

Lindholm is amazing. Sneaky fast then just lightly steps on the brakes to create space and get that puck to Gaudreau. Gaudreau incidentally has been fighting it a lot tonight. Can always tell when he's just a bit off when he's forcing plays through many defenders.
Hey Smiths on the bench. Habs have an equal chance of scoring with him out as with him in. Hey-ooo! Hyberole!

Why? He is the head honcho coach. Go with what your eyes are showing you. Coach,,,that is what he is paid to do.
And if the goalie coach says Smith is the man, then he should be gone along with Smith.
