Duane Bratt is saying that city council was unified on the 88 vote and not divisive like the present one.
He also pointed out that if this was a vote in 2014 it would have been a slam dunk for the Olympics. Todays economy and people not happy with our levels of govt and how they spend our money, played a factor into todays vote.

A new arena would take a lot of the sting off.

Ask your city council...they voted to not even have this plebiscite 2 weeks ago.

Who is Devin Heroux and why do we care about him? Is this person actually an authority on something or just somebody that everybody is randomly re-posting?

Or some may just not care enough to want to shell out significant tax dollars regardless of federal or provincial funding (who pay's those taxes again?). If they needed this bid to get completed or were never going to get done in a reasonable manner, that might be a bigger concern perhaps?
To counter that, I hope the YES crowd understand that a half baked, hastily thrown together gong show that was presented to the citizens of the city was not an ideal way to push their agenda. Proper presentation and planning goes a long way to winning over a crowd.

I believe he works with CBC and is based right now at the Yes Camp reporting.

CBC was on board the yes train.
Where the main stream media failed was how they consistently fail they provide an unmoderated platform for people to debate each other. Instead they need to be fact checkers and call out lies.

I voted yes, however I think Nenshi's involvement in the lack of an arena and flagrant support for a perceived vanity project buried this. You can't play hardball on something a lot of Calgarians care about then 180 on your fiscal conservative bonafides.

Not shelling out tax dollars was never an option at the provincial or federal level. The province wasn't proposing a new tax to pay for this, they were just re-allocating their capital funding cut from property taxes to the MSI to the Olympic bid rather than paying off their own deficit.
The feds allocation is slated to be spent on a major international event. It's allocated money from the current tax rates, not a promise to raise new money contingent on a bid.

Sad.. but I know I will at least have a little bit of grin.. when this eventually costs us more in the long run.. all the upgrades and improvements eventually have to happen, with no guarantees of other level of government support.

I listened to QR77 and watched Global this morning and the entire panel was all yes.
