So now James Waan is a terrible director because he is directing Aquaman? If he was directing Iron Man you guys would be all over him. The Russo Brothers only movie they directed before Winter Soldier.....You Me and Dupree. Lets take a look at how Waanderful his movies are:
2018 Aquaman (directed by) (completed)
2016 MacGyver (TV Series) (1 episode) 2016 The Conjuring 2 - Yet another great movie 2015 Furious 7 - Made a billion dollars WW 2013 Insidious: Chapter 2 - Another great horror film 2013 The Conjuring - One of the best horror films and started a shared universe of horror films. 2010/I Insidious - One of the best horror films ever
2008 Doggie Heaven (Video short)
2007 Death Sentence
2007 Dead Silence 2004 Saw - One of the most original and best horror films.
2003 Saw (Short)
2000 Stygian
Statistics? With every terrible job the chance of the next one being outstanding increases!
None of them were really terrible.
Saw, the Conjurings and Furious 7 were great for what they were. No one was mistakenly going into those thinking they were Citizen Kane, but they were great for what they were. Especially from the point of view of directing.
The Insidiouses less so, pretty meh, but nothing shockingly bad. I'm not sure about the other ones but were also over a decade ago.
I don't think this director will make or break Aquaman though.
Also, nobody on earth called the Russo Brothers “one of the best directors in Hollywood” before Winter Soldier came out either. Your hyperbole hit both sides of the spectrum with this guy — he’s neither one of the best directors in Hollywoof or terrible. He’s okay. Will he make or break Aquaman? Probably not.

No one is saying he is terrible.
It was you that said he is one of the best directors in Hollywood right now.
I'll give you the horror ones (although the hyperbole seems a tad over the top) but Furious movies are nonsensical car movies people love for some reason, and it ain't the directing.
Maybe Aquaman is good. Maybe not. But why does everything have to be *the greatest ever!*
I think he's one of the best directors in Hollywood right now because I really enjoy horror and he has made some of the most amazing horror movies in recent times. I also think Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is one of the best directors in Hollywood right now. There are few directors where I'm interested in what every they make no matter the genre, Waan, Coogler are both on that list. If Waan was directing a Namor movie I would still be super excited for it, but less so because I have never read a Namor comic.

Ah Hollywoof!
When Hollywood wont take you but you're not quite at Bollywood levels and you have a fascination with making films concerning talking dogs then Hollywoof is for you!

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
The greatest challenge with Aquaman is doing underwater effects that aren't ridiculous. Early reviews say they nailed this.
As for James Juan, he's definitely not giving us Citizen Kane here. However, what he is extremely good at is putting together a coherent and fun action/suspense type movie, and I think that's what we'll get with Aquaman. This is in contrast to a bunch of DC's previous efforts, which were very disjointed and unengaging.
Between Aquaman, WWII, Joker, and Shazam, DC will actually have a few solid hits on its hands. Aquaman will likely land in the 700 million range. Aquaman has a production budget of $160 million and DC did not have to pay 4 billion dollars for the rights to its characters, and they don't have to share profits with RDJ. In other words, Aquaman is likely to be a big financial success.
Of those movies I've mentioned, Joker looks like it could be the odd one out in terms of box office revenue. It's production budget is only 55 million. Which means that it only needs about $120 million total box office to be profitable.
Location: In a land without pants, or war, or want. But mostly we care about the pants.
Exp:
The Conjuring was godawful, nonsensical dreck that was about as scary as a bunny snuggle. I must assume those of you who feel differently must have fallen through a hole in reality from a universe where that title refers to an entirely different movie, because it is inconceivable that such an objectively brutal work could evoke any feelings but despair, disgust, and perhaps a bit of teeth-chattering but otherwise inarticulate rage.

I have to think that a lot of that stuff was put in purposely by the creators. With all the censorship they were facing at the time I think they were toying with the rules a lot of the time.
