Four game losing streak throwing a wrench into the Oilers cup parade plans. Down 4-1 with four minutes left, so what do you do? You double-shift McDavid and Draisaitl of course, because that is the game plan no matter what's going on in the game.

So in the last 5 games, McDavid has 1 goal 4 assists and is a -1 and has looked pretty disengaged.
Maybe the massive amount of ice time has worn him down already

Wonder how long it'll take before they turn on him and his massive contract.

I fully expect the Oilers to get another first overall pick, trade McDavid away to make room for that new contract, then have the new fancy toy to underperform.

Should we start guessing which mid-pairing d-man they get back?

The losing has to stop pretty soon, I can't watch them winning another lottery.
They should hang around the .500 mark.

It seems hfoilers is in near meltdown mode. The Flames better friggin show up next Saturday and the ATL will be glorious.
Buuuttt if the Flames lose, Chia and TMac probably keep their jobs, which would also be good. Win win I suppose

This is more like it! Keep up the E=NG material everyone! Almost brings a tear to my eye.
Speaking of tearing up, the PA must love Chia as a NHL GM. He does a tremendous job of keeping those NHL contracts costs up there with some of the lovelies he has offered since his Boston days. When he first came to Edmonton, I was actually a little concerned he could turn that franchise around. I thought, the cap hell Boston was in was no real fault of his, right? They had recently won the cup. That will drive salary demands up, right? Nope, apparently, you can outright suck too and you still get paid by Chia.
Mind you, Lucic was a UFA signing. Terrible contract to say the least. Who could have seen that coming? Not the paid professionals in Edmonton. Russell's contract... I actually like his heart, but worth 4 mill? I don't think so. Throw in some over payments to other Oilers and you have a team in a cap crunch going nowhere fast. Really, take McDingles out of that lineup and what do you have left? A whole lot of nothing.
Now, I know people will say if Edmonton didn't offer that contract to Lucic, another team would. If Drai wasn't paid his 8+ mill, someone else would love to have him at that price. McDavid is "the best player in the world", he deserves to be paid the most. The other inflated contracts? Which team doesn't have those? I know, all true in their own way. I get it. Or not, depends who you talk to.
Then you throw in gems like David Staples who pitches a fit when someone dares talk down the Oil or doesn't agree with his take on anything Oilaz. Seems like a smug guy who lacks maturity or professionalism. However, he does fit in perfectly with that organization.
The bottom line is, E=NG. That equation, unlike the Oilers and D Staples, always makes sense.
Cheers.

For years Edmonton has been the National Hockey League’s laughing stock. All those first-overall draft picks, yet, a constant diet of lottery-pick finishes.
Fans in 29 cities laughed, and that hurt. But what really killed the Oilers was that they were laughing just as hard in 29 dressing rooms across the NHL. Sometimes 30.

Oh wow, that article has some absolute gems.
Quote:
“Hey, I’ve spoken to a lot of GMs since Monday, and had a lot of different places I could have gone,” Lucic said. “I chose Edmonton.”
|
And those other GM's breathe a massive sigh of relief every morning they wake up.
Quote:
The term and Lucic’s foot speed will be a cause for concern in the ever-rising pace of the NHL, as well as the fact that McDavid may be the fastest player in the game. Can Lucic keep up?
“Look at the (centres) I’ve played with over my career. I’ve been able to keep up and produce with these players,” he said of players such as Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and for much of last season Anze Kopitar.

How's that working out?

It is incredible to think that since 2006 there has not been a playoff game played in Northern Alberta. That an Edmontonian born in July of 1990 is about to celebrate their 26th birthday, and but for a fluky run a decade ago, they have not had a serious contender for a Stanley Cup in their lifetime.
The drought here has been long, and it has been embarrassing.
Now, suddenly, the clouds have parted. The end is in sight.

Staples article today:
According to the Reddit translation, which is in line with the other translations, Pakarinen says the following of the Oilers coaching staff: “They don’t say anything or talk to you about why you’re not playing. At least the Oilers never did. That’s what annoyed me the most… Coach never gives you a reason or reasons. You have to figure it out why you’re sitting in the pressbox by yourself. Also in general the coach and GM talked to us very little. It’s almost like they have some top secret information. I think it’s unfathomable… Communication should be more open, like it is in Europe. Here it goes like it should. In the NHL it feels like the coach is one great ego. Of course the coach will talk to the players about random things, but never about anything personal or things related to your own game.”
Pakarinen said he could not comment on whether this was an issue with Puljujarvi.
