What about something like Mike Smith + 1st 2019 + Mike Stone for Jeff Carter + jack Campbell. Is our 1st worth enough?
I think jack Campbell + david rittich could split a season or two nicely

Jack Campbell has only played a total of 20 NHL games. If the Flames are giving up a first round pick, I would want a more experienced goaltender in return

We also dump salary and acquire jeff Carter. While Carter isn't what he once was hes still a solid 2c option who is a known playoff commodity with a decent cap hit.

Why do we need Carter? And why would we want another unknown goaltender?

Bobrovsky is currently earning $7.5 m. He will get a contract worth at least $8.0 m.

Philly also has to sign Kopeckny, Simmonds and Proverov. Do they have room?
Florida has Luongo under contract for 3 more, Reimer under contract for 2 more. Would be a pretty big change to move on from Luongo.
New Jersey has 2 studs in net right now. They are more likely to be a seller, not a buyer.
NYI: Wildcard. They have Nelson, Eberle, Lee and Lehner all UFA at the end of the season. My bet is that they stick with whomever takes the #1 job in net this year and run with them long term - Greiss or Lehner. However they have tonnes of cap room and an opportunity to really change the makeup of the team at the trade deadline.
Vancouver - yep. Good call. They will be buyers in the goalie market.

Jack Campbell is a good example of patience with goalies. Still playing some ECHL two years ago. But still, a huge no to giving up a 1st round pick for him.

Carter would allow us to ice 3 very strong lines:
Gaudreau-monahan-lindholm
Tkachuk-Carter-Neal
Bennett-Backlund-Frolik
And Campbell has had good numbers for a while now, could be a home run. Plus we cap dump Mike smith for this season and stone for this and the next.

Philly won’t try Bob again;
Luongo isn’t leaving Florida so that salary isn’t going anywhere;
Vancouver is high on Demko, plus they aren’t in there contending window yet, they won’t move good assets for Bob.
NYI is probably the most likely destination for Bob.

Looking into it I actually kind of like it. But the LA Kings are on the brink of rebuilding. I don’t actually know if you could sneak Campbell out of there, and I think they’d prefer more younger pieces than older ones.
Maybe Smith, Gillies, and a 1st would be closer. Or Smith, Gillies, Janko, and a 2nd. Hard to say. Carter’s contract isn’t terrible and Campbell could take over and make Quick expendable. I think you might have to overpay.

which is to my point. I dont think there are a lot of potential buyers to take Bob's contract. I don't see a bidding war for his services, so I don't think the salary will be as high as it currently is.

That's why the deal is no good from a Kings perspective.
The only piece that has any value for them is Calgary's first and its looking like a low first especially if they can upgrade Smith. Just don't see it, even if the King's are in tank mode.

I think in that theoretical trade the 1st is more for Carter than it is for Campbell. Carter is on pace for a 20 goal, 50 point season, getting paid 5.27 million for this season and 3 more. I suppose LA does it if they are in full tank mode and trying to clear out cap space for a rebuild.
Carter's remaining years on his contract align with the Flames window, it is an interesting move. It definitely would allow us to have a deep top 9, not sure that package (Smith has no value) gets it done, but I would find Carter intriguing.

I'm just not sure why the Kings move Campbell. Their patience has finally been rewarded with him, I'm sure they want to see what they have in him.
They could easily move Carter and/or Campbell without taking a salary dump in return.
Carter is worth a first easily on his own.
You would be basically getting Campbell for the negative value Smith.

And whatever value Stone has, but I agree. There is not much in that package for LA. I suspect swapping Parsons for Smith would get it done or adding Parsons if the Kings want a NHL goalie.

He won’t be making 8 million unless he turns his season around.

Parsons is going to be a much better goalie than Campbell, why on Earth would we do that? Yes, lets give the Kings a brand spanking new second coming of Jonathan Quick, we will be loving that down the road.

I am not suggesting it, I was merely saying that throwing in a worthless goalie (Smith) and a 5-6 dman is unlikely enough for Campbell when the offer is already undervaluing Carter, as I suspect he can get more than merely a 1st. I think Parsons could get it done, in exchange for Campbell who was the next Quick before Parsons was the next Quick (Campbell was arguably more successful at the World Juniors). In any event, that is a package that I think gets that trade done.

That package doesn't get Carter, never mind Carter + Campbell

I have never heard scouts refer to Jack Campbell as a young Quick, I have heard multiple scouts say that about Parsons though. That and how can you argue that Campbell was more successful at the WJC? You can't get any more successful than winning Gold can you?
