That was a fun game to watch. Flames played a real solid road game and didn't give up much. When they did have a breakdown, Rittich was there to make a save. It was actually a relaxing game to watch and even though it was a nail biter type game, it was calming knowing every scoring chance wasn't going to end up in the back of our net. Kings played a pretty good game as well and did a great job keeping the shots to the outside. Flames fully deserved the win in a well contested match.

That was a game where Bennett litreally seemed to do everything but score. Hamonic really did playa great game though.
Makes a difference when the goaltender doesn't give up any weak goals.

I think the entire 3rd line played well, as frolik was also flying around, making hits, generally causing trouble for the kings. Unfortunately although I like Derek Ryan the person (works hard, seems like a good team player) I felt like he was noticeably being dragged along by the other two. If we could get this team another top 6 c and have backlund to center an elite 3rd with Bennett and frolik we'd be at 1989 levels of depth.

Hamonic was a beast last night. Had a great view of his seeing eye shot, loved the stick banging to get the puck.
Both Ducks and Kings I talked to fans gave the Flames huge props, people are starting to notice this team is good.
Drove to Bakersfield after the game en route to San Jose. This place is a dump, but then I remembered the Oilers play here.

What a weird PGT, some people just can't help but to pile on Smith.
Anyways, LA is a bad team going no where fast. They remind me of some of those older flames teams that were still in denial that a rebuild is needed. Great team effort by the Flames, who continue to get some great looks. I do think they are starting to over pass a bit at some times. At the end of a day big 2 points for the standings.
On a side note, it is kind of amusing that the Flames and coyotes are the only Pacific teams with a positive goal differential.

Not at all, it was a great seeing eye shot just inside the post but mostly to the credit of Hathaway completely screening Campbell from the puck. My point is that a guy who's value primarily comes from the defensive half of the ice, it's great to see him really demonstrate the reputation he built for himself out east. I think there's some accuracy to the comment made on the broadcast about him looking more comfortable this year and not having the saviour esque fanfare to our defensive depth.

Hamonic praise is well deserved. IMO the biggest difference this year is that he has a D partner that he trusts

That’s not happening. Even if goaltending was solid and resources weren’t possibly needed to replace Smith getting someone actually good enough to be a better 2C than Backlund would cost a lot of prospects/players and would likely prevent signing Tkachuk. The best hope is likely for Jankowski to work out, but he’s nowhere near being able to outperform Backlund at this point.

Game Takes:
Flames 1 Kings 0
Sorry for the delay, had to catch up the game late after my daughter's game.
- Rittich posts his first career shut out
- Third Line dominant but can't finish
- James Neal not working on 2nd line
- Flames give up little to Kings
- Hamonic's best game as a Flame

Agreed and it's great. Only thing is the top line for two games now has been too cutey patutey with their overpassing, which has hindered their production. But everything else is looking quite good aside from the now backup goaltender.

Smith, all things being equal (and assuming he stopped all the pucks he should), would have gotten the SO too. Kings were not threatening.
Hamonic was a beast, and Bennett had a good game too
I have no trouble starting Smith tomorrow, just hope the Flames keep the grade A chances against down.

Smith deserves every bit of the criticism given him. His game has been more than pathetic to date. I have cringed every time I have seen the opposition skating his way...just no confidence what so ever in his abilities to make routine stops.
And I think it is pretty presumptuous to assume Smith could have got a SO last night as well.

Good for him.

Ya, I'll cop to that as well. Very down on goaltending in general for the team, but definitely saw Rittich as not good enough.
