There are now 13 fatalities in the Thousand Oaks shooting including the shooter and a Ventura County Sergeant. The Sheriff has reported that there is blood everywhere. So sad.

This one hits close to home - we are about 20 minutes away from Thousand Oaks. Goddamn I wish they would do something about high capacity clips in this country - at least it would be a start

I know how you feel, but change happens slowly, and you have to believe people really are working on it.
God willing, we'll have those high capacity clips in the hands of the people who need them before this happens again.

California definitely has a high capacity magazine law. And it is a start. You can pretty much correlate the states with 5 star gun law ratings from the NRA with the states that have the most gun crime.

NRA refers to the AR-15 as "Americas Rifle"
Aurora: AR-15
Orlando: Sig Sauer MCX
Parkland: AR-15
Las Vegas: AR-15
Sandy Hook: AR-15
Texas Church: AR-15
San Bernardino: AR-15
Waffle House: AR-15
Santa Fe High School: AR-15 or shotgun and a .38-caliber revolver, depending on who you believe.

Watching the press conference by the sheriff
Weapon appears to be a .45 handgun. It had an extended magazine.
Shooter known to police and had mental health issues. Was a former marine as recent as 2013. 28 years old. Possible ptsd. Had been checked out and cleared by mental health officials
Sherriff - who is doing a terrific job at the press conference BTW - retires tomorrow.
Security guard was the first or one of the first killed. 6 off duty police in the bar. One parent reports that her daughter had the off duty cop stand in front of her to protect her, likely saving her life. So off duty cops were standing tall in the crisis.

I mean legislation will help, but everyone who currently has high capacity mags will of course be able to sell them on the black market. Considering we know the gun nuts accumulate weapons and ammo as if they single handily will have to take down the tyrannical government, that's probably a massive black market. America has so very much to do for this to not be the norm.

California is a state with restrictions on magazine capacity.
Also, and this is a pet peeve when discussing this issue, please acknowledge the difference between a clip and a magazine, as it can cloud the issue. Accuracy helps when talking to the NRA types, as it at least shows you understand guns and ammo. The clip is a device used to store ammunition so it can be quickly loaded into a magazine or rifle, depending on the feed mechanism. The magazine is a device used to hold rounds (bullets) and acts as a feeding mechanism into the weapon. You can buy ammunition on a stripper clip that makes loading your magazine much quicker and easier, but you carry loaded magazines which makes reloading a quick process.

A bit of a red herring. Most .45s have a capacity of 7-8 rounds, depending on manufacturer. The extended mags that are concealable offer a capacity of 9-10 rounds. So the extended magazine in this situation is adding two extra rounds. Should also note, that by California law the magazine in this instance, while being considered large capacity, is legal as it does not exceed 10 rounds to make it a prohibited magazine.

Yes what New Era said, and California has some of the strictest laws in the entire country with regards to firearms.
