If Smith stopped playing now, his .872 sv% for this season would be the worst season anyone has had in this league in a decade, (for goalies who played at least 10 games in a season).
What else is there to say? Yes, Rämö would likely be better. Curtis McElhinney is better. David Rittich is a lot better.
There hasn't been even a backup goalie this bad in the league since Pascal LeClair and Tobias Stephan in 2008-09.
I don't understand why is this even a discussion anymore. Smith is bad, he's been bad since January, he's only been getting worse, what else is there left to discuss except "why is he still playing" and "who do we replace him with"?
I vote calling up a young guy to be Rittichs backup.

Rather that then Steve Mason or any other reclamation project available to be honest. Anyway, the guy is 32, so it would just be another gamble on yet another stop gap solution. I bet throwing Rittich off the deep end to see what he's really got will be the first order of business, and right now I'm all for that. Back to back coming up, so he'll start one of the next two anyway.

Ramo hasn't played a game this year in the KHL, you are looking at last years stats. Nigel Dawes leads the league in points. And both Joni Ortio and Henrik Karlsson play more regularly and better than Ramo playing no games.
It's a second rate league where tweeners thrive.
Like I said, go to bed.

Still can't believe Backs missed that. Even your average beer league player could have buried that shot. No doubt he's kicking himself after that one.

Let's not forget Johnny missing a wide open net and hitting the post.

More fuel to the fire about his possible hand injury. A poster mentioned recently that Warrener claimed Backlund wasn't shaking with his right hand at a charity event recently.

Well that sucked. I hate losing to the Ducks. Who else got flashbacks of 2016 game 2?
-Silfverberg opens the scoring.
-Bad goaltending has Calgary down 2-0 early.
-The Flames come back with a power play goal and a shorty.
-Getzlaf breaks our hearts in the 3rd.
-The Flames dominate but lose 3-2.

67 goalies have played in the NHL this season. Mike Smith ranks 61st in sv% and 54th in GAA. Most goalies around that position have played 1-5 games. Smith has 11.
Simply put, he’s not been nearly good enough.
Rittich ranks 18th in sv% and 15th in GAA. Time to give him a shot.
Those numbers improve if you give the goalies a minimum of 5GP. Out of 44 goalies who have played 5 or more games, Rittich ranks 13th in sv% and 9th in GAA.
If you apply the GP limit to Smith he ranks dead last at 44th in sv% and 38th in GAA.

On the upside, the Flames played well overall and Jankowski scored a beauty which should help his confidence.

If you are referring to the video clip of them arguing, it was a stoppage of play after Smith touched the puck instead of letting it go to icing and Neal went over to him give him #### about it cause the Av's got a bunch of offensive pressure because Smith played the puck. The Flames were up 6-4 after coming back from being down 4-1.
Smith just kept responding "I didn't know it was icing."

Fire smith into the sun and close that chapter in the flames net. Get rid of sigalet too. Kelly mentioned twice last night how much Smith has been working with sigalet and hes clearly gotten worse, much like every goalie sigalet has put his hands on

The coyotes are paying for part of Smith's salary, but maybe they're not the only other team paying him... I mean he knows he's done after this season so maybe he's trying to cash in while be can lol. That's the only reason that makes sense to me, he just shouldn't make it so obvious

I think it's just obvious that Mike Smith was never a good goalie in the same way other goalies are good. He relied on positioning and a big frame, but has little in the way of reflexes or rebound control. Now that the bad aren't as big and dont absorb shots as well, he is being exposed as the terrible hack that he is. My grandma had better five hole coverage than this clown.

Smith has a bad attitude to go along with his bad goaltending.
Hopefully he doesn’t poison good team chemistry right now.
I would send him home and call up one of the kids.
He’s lost it. Simple as that.

Halak has played 8 of Boston's 14 games and is #1 in the league in both save % and GAA. No hope in hell that Stone + Rittich gets you Halak, even if you retained 100% of both salaries lol.

Yeah. Boston is presumably happy with their goaltending, viewing it as a strength. Trade a quality tender for a promising but not yet proven backup goalie and a healthy scratch d man? That’s not going to get it done.
If only the Flames still had Stajan and Brouwer to throw in.

The only way the Flames move Smith now is for someone else's problem (or two).
Jake Allen, for example.

Read an article yesterday where Allen says the blues have hit rock bottom. He needs out and I'd take him. He's facing a ton of shots and playin behind a team that isn't playing well .
Can't be worse than Smith.
