I am trying so hard to be optimistic with this Smith plays away theory. But once again another defensive mistake puts Smith to task, and once again Smith doesn't make the save.
Hope the guys don't have to score 4+ yet again to try and get out of this game.

Another garbage goal will soon come. Smith isn’t tracking the puck and is all over the map in his crease. Hopefully Peters pulls him after 2 this game.

Flames need a legit #1 so they don't waste the cores good years. I'm guessing they will give Smith plenty of chances to find his game which won't be good for the team or the standings.

Smith has had a couple solid games which probably make him overall better than Hiller's last year, but when he's bad... I don't even think Hiller made me this nervous on every shot the way I am right now.

That was a butter soft goal. I was thinking we had goaltending locked down this year. Hoo boy was I wrong.

What I don’t get is why Smith isn’t attempting to get square to the puck.
He tries to make every save with his glove or pads - instead of just letting it hit him in the body.

Not sure if he’s afraid to get dinged up because I’d fhe smaller equipment but any shot that he can just get square to and take it in the body he seems to be waving at and then it trickles through him

They've had a couple good chances but they certainly weren't carrying the play. Even at best.

Let’s get him some goals boys!

The last thing you want is Treliving bringing in a goalie, god only knows what “talent” he can unearth.

I think it's two reasons

1) There's a belief that Smith is the goalie he was for one half season last year and he's currently unlucky

2) Glue reasons. Good guy in the room, yadda yadda yadda. Don't upset an important leader. If you don't start him the team may lose their confidence

I hate Steve Mason, but could he be any worse at this point? He's not working at the moment. His last year in Winnipeg was terrible, but he was passable as an NHL goalie before that.
I'm just not sure Smith can put up a .900 sv% anymore. That's not even AHL quality goaltending.
