But let’s also not minimize what this means overall, in case we get any more “hot takes” about how this night is somehow a win for Trump. An election where the Democrat comes within a hair’s breadth of winning IA-4 is a wave election, make no mistake about it. The Democrats are destroying the Republicans on the congressional ballot overall, notwithstanding some not-awesome results in the Senate. It is a bigger margin than any of the last few “wave” elections in terms of raw votes. If this was a referendum on Trump, he lost. Big time.
Which of course means he will declare victory tomorrow, because of course he will. But let’s be clear: if 2020 looks like tonight, then he is a one term President.

Oilers lose and Dems take the house. I can sleep easy tonight.

The Senate was a long shot to start with so I’m ok with that, but the number of House wins is awesome. You can’t tell me that having all these Democratic Women winning isn’t good. Let’s be honest, Women know how to get s hit done.

So far the Democrats have gained 27 seats, and we are still not really seeing any results from the West Coast yet. We are probably looking at a 35 seat pickup when all is said and done. And apparently 114 million people voted.
This is all bad news for Trump. Forget the Senate: look at the raw vote totals, and look at the “Trunp” districts that voted for a Democrat this time around.

What's the deal with Nunes' district? How does he win in California?

It's been Republican held since 2002. I've only been to Fresno/Clovis once. It was a working class area with lots of farms and factories. Not really the type of people you see throughout the Bay Area or SoCal.

Pleased with how the House results are projecting, though disappointed in the USA's inability to categorically reject corruption, racism, and flat out sleaze.
Still, with this out of the way, we can get back to Mueller's investigation. He's had a nice period of calm to get some work done, so hopefully we see some fresh indictments next week.

Stacey Abrams has refused to concede the governor's race in Georgia. Not surprising with the amount of evil shenanigans going on in that state from Kemp and his GOP minions. This one's gonna get messy before it's all over.

Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams is not conceding the Georgia governor's race to Republican candidate Brian Kemp, arguing that the high stakes contest is too close to call.
CNN has not projected a winner in the Georgia governor's race, but Kemp is ahead in votes with 99% of precincts reporting.
"I'm here tonight to tell you votes remain to be counted. There's voices that are waiting to be heard," Abrams told supporters early Wednesday morning gathered in Atlanta.
Abrams suggested that they'll wait for absentee ballots to be counted.

A lawsuit filed Tuesday in a Georgia federal court by five state voters asked a judge to strip Kemp of his powers over the midterm election -- including any potential runoffs.
Voters in the Peach State also faced long lines and malfunctioning machines during Tuesday's vote.

The map sure emphasizes the urban vs. rural/small town divide.
One thing that drives me nuts, and this is just as true in Canada, is that party majority gives them "control". I get that party affiliation is a good indicator of where someone's ideals lay, but I wish more politicians thought on their own without the automatic hive-like party loyalty when it comes to issues. Partisan politics always suck no matter who is in control of a legislative branch.
I do wonder if some House Republicans (or even Senators) who don't really like Trump, might be more inclined to cooperate with Democrats in Congress now that the Dems have control of the House and more power in Congress.
Too bad Richard Ojeda lost. His ads were quite compelling.

So I’ll ask again. How does this work? Is Kemp in charge of the investigation? Will it be a Federal court case or just a state case?

those pictures and reports of how voting is made extra difficult for a lot of Americans always make me sad. It something you'd expect from a third world country, not a country like the US - and the fact that it's almost exclusively by design is infuriating. The American people deserve so much better.

While it is disappointing to see the Senate remain under Republican control, the numbers from this election are extremely positive for the most part. We saw some very strong showings in places where seats have always been considered safely Republican (Beto and Sinema stand out) which bodes well for the future as things are slowly turning more purple.
The only downside I see from this vote is it still clearly shows just how polarized the nation is on a rural versus urban divide. This vote drove home the point that ignorance and racism drives maintains the Republican party, and there is no longer any possible defense for these people. I really don't care about what people say about about calling them ignorant racists, and how you will never change their minds by "insulting" them. Well guess what? You aren't changing the mind of a ignorant racist, no matter how politely you speak to them. That was fully on display with the results of this election.
I'm most interested to see the vote totals and the popular split. I think the left will have earned a substantial edge. Couple that with the age of the right voting block and you will see major changes in the next decade. Hopefully America can last that long. We're not out of the woods yet.

What will the Dems governorship pickups mean to the gerrymandering situation? Did any egregious states flip?

I think those are the two keys from the election. Rural America has fully bought in to Trump, love what he's doing and are a lost cause. I think group think has taken over that demographic. When everyone around you is saying the news is fake and Trump is right, then it makes it easy to believe it.
The other thing that is obvious is that OH, PA, MI, and WI will 100% decide the next presidential election to the point that no other state matters. The Democrats absolutely need to go with a candidate who appeals to that area. It's got to be someone who appeals to the working class and not viewed as liberal elite.
