Pretty sure it was the Yes side saying that the negative numbers on the city feedback side were due to the No side using bots. Another case of projecting in politics.

In a poll on support for CalgaryNext taken in 2016, 55% of Calgarypuck respondents opposed it, while 25% were in favour.
A few months earlier, in a poll taken by Mainstreet, 34% of Calgarians opposed it, while 39% supported it. About a year later (months after the CP poll), Mainstreet ran another poll with 51% opposed and 40% in favour.
While support dwindled and opposition rose, neither came close to the levels CP, a supposedly sport-friendly demographic, reached months prior.
To say that CP skews further in support of tax funded sports projects than the general public is not founded.

A very detailed report from the Canada West Foundation: http://cwf.ca/wp-content/uploads/201...picsReport.pdf
Quote:
Executive Summary
The Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games are a celebration of winter sport – and winter spirit. That is part of what makes the idea of the Winter Games so exciting to Canadians. But the Games are also a major undertaking. Before a Calgary 2026 Winter Games bid goes ahead, the communities involved need to ask hard questions about whether or not a bid is worth it. The economics of the Games receive a lot of attention, and that makes sense – how governments spend money is important to us. But there is also more to the Games than just money.
The assumption underlying this report is that a fiscally responsible bid is necessary, but it is not sufficient. There also needs to be something more. The personal and community social benefits from hosting the Games and the capital investment legacy is that “something.”
This report explores the costs, risks, benefits and opportunities of a Calgary 2026 Winter Games from economic, social, cultural, environmental, political and other perspectives.
From this analysis, two key questions stood out:
Is the Calgary 2026 Games bid an economical, cost-effective and responsible approach?
Would the Games provide significant benefits for the host region?
The answer to both these questions is yes.

Hell, given all the other shenanigans Bidco have been caught doing already, I wouldn't be surprised if they already funneled a wads of money to a bunch of Russians to hack those counting machines . . .
. . . I can't decide if that last sentence should be in green text or not.

Wife and I will be voting yes on the 13th.
Only my 2 cents but the way things seem - city council will disregard a yes majority if it occurs.

It would complete the circle for Calgary Bidco to announce that they won't cover their expenses or overruns.

I'm pretty confident NHL players would be going to a 2026 Canadian Olympics.
I'm pretty confident we're going to have a new arena by then.
Might just have to vote yes for the pure fact of McDavid having to spend 2 weeks in our arena and city thinking how much better it is compared to that Rogers dump in Edmonton. (Odds are he plays for team Canada barring injury or massive slump)
I have one condition though. Jamaican Bobsledders.

The Mayor's six minute or so video explaining his reasons for supporting the bid. A worthwhile listen.

Voting no.
I've been an ardent Nenshi supporter for almost a decade, but this issue has turned me against him. I'll vote for anyone but Nenshi next municipal election.

Also CP definitely skews towards not giving massive corporate handouts. The fact that this poll only shows 45% no is a definite concern, as it would project to a landslide "yes" in the general public. I would expect the generally reasonable people of CP not to be complete idiots, but I guess that's too much to hope for in this case.

I imagine privacy of each forum member, and which way they voted was paramount to any transparency considerations.
Or it was hastily created, without deliberation.
