Blues are another team that might make sense for Q.

Worked pretty well for Pittsburgh.

Strange to think that Saturday's trip to the Saddledome was the final nail in the coffin for Q.. I remember a very lacking trip to the United Centre being the final nail in the coffin for Iggy as a Flame.

Pittsburgh had a prospect pool, goaltender(s), and a GM making trades that made sense. Oh and they already had a cup before pooling big money towards their top two guys.

Didn't know the Oilers had a Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang, Murray/Fleury etc.

Wish they’d done it in the off season. Perfect coach for Calgary. Not that I dislike Peters or anything but Q is the best

Seems weird to me to do it now. Should have just fired him in the offseason if you’re going to give him 15 games and a .500 record.

St Louis return seems to make the most sense to me.

That’s my guess.

But I am surprised not by the speculation from fans that Edmonton would be a possible destination, rather that Quenneville would dramatically improve that terrible team. Todd McLellan is not a bad coach.

No.

Not even Joel Quenneville can save the Edmonton Oilers.

No one can.

No one.

The question was can you build a cup winning team around 2 players making 20% of the teams salary. The answer to that is an obvious yes. Now does Edmonton have a good enough GM or enough minor league talent to pull it off? Likely not, but it’s not going to because of McDavid and Draisaitl.

Coach Q was in a no-win situation with the cap and roster structure. He's an easy scapegoat for a team that is on the decline. I'd be surprised if Chicago did much better for the remainder of the season.

Let the wild speculation on Q's destination continue!

But it is going to be because the McDavid : Draisaitl combination is not remotely close to as good as the Crosby : Malkin one. THAT is the problem you continue to gloss over.

*EDIT* Speaking of Crosby and Malkin, did anyone catch their great interview with Elliott’s Friedman on Saturday?

We love to tag on the Oilers but I could see it being attractive to a coach who is considered a elite coach. I could also soon Quenvilles no BS and high hockey knowledge do wonders for the Oilers.

I don't think he will be around by the time the Oilers are looking for someone new though.

LA was rumored to be looking for a coach who is a bit less Sutter like and I'm not sure Quenvilles all that much different.

Ottawa has to be less attractive than Edmonton.
I don't know the current coach contracts but I could see Washington being a prime destination. Florida also comes to mind with a young group similar to what Quenville ran with in Chicago.

No they are not, but one pair is 21/23 years old. The other is 31/32 years old.

That will be enticing for a coach who knows what they're doing.
