The scary part is that Monahan is over a point per game and hasn't yet played as well as we know he can. Hard not to get excited for the rest of the season.

Hopefully this earns him a bit more respect, even amongst Flames fans.

That's just what gfycat uses to identify gifs that get uploaded. Most sites use a random sequence of characters or numbers, but gfycat's all follow the AdjectiveAdjectiveCompoundnoun pattern.

The timing is rather amusing, given it comes barely a week after some people here were preparing to run him out of town.

OMG ty!

The best I could come up with was this GIF was somehow uploaded by a Chicago fan who was upset about a delay of game penalty... and his auto-correct mistook 'Game Goal' for 'Germanwirehairedpointer'

He had a pretty bad stretch there for a couple games where he seemed kind of lost in his 200ft game, and in the defensive zone. It was so bad that I actually think the questions around his ability to be a top line center on a great team was fairly being questioned.

But along with Gaudreau I feel like they have both really committed to playing a strong 200ft game after the loss against Pittsburgh and they have been rewarded in the offensive zone with that extra effort as well.

Really hope they keep up the focus on their 200ft game because the harder they work away from the puck, the more they will have the puck, and right now that line is deadly when they have the puck.

Just a proxy - in the 11 games up to the Penguins debacle Monahan/Gaudreau had been averaging 13 HDCF per 60 minutes and 19 HDCA - and had been on the ice for at least 1 goal against per game on average.

In the five game since that game they have been able to generate more offensive chances (up to 17 HDCF per 60), and have cleaned up their defensive zone play (HDCA down to 12).
I'm glad you said this in such an eloquent way, because I noticed the same thing.

This is a great example of productive criticism rather than just labeling players as a 2nd line center or a garbage man. It shows that you can appreciate the positive of their game, but also show that they have areas that need improving. I think Bingo was saying much the same thing during that losing streak.

I hope the players take a look at their own stats from time to time as well, or someone shows it to them. It forces them to be honest with where their efforts are going, and if it's not in the defensive zone, the high danger chances and goals against go up. It looks like they've made the adjustment, and the result is a lot of goals for and a lot of winning! Let's hope they don't forget it the rest of the year.

Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk and Lindholm make up 4 of the top 13 NHL scorers right now.

Monahan has 3 less points than Mc13Million. Next in points for the Oilers on the leaderboard? Draisatl 8.5 million dollar man at #42

First star of the week. Yet still not an All-Star. Very underrated

Whoa, didn't expect this. A pleasant surprise considering even though he's on a torrid pace offensively this season, he's been criticized fairly recently. Even with these great offensive numbers, I think he still has another level he can reach.

Very quietly the man goes about his business and gets the job done. Flames are lucky to have him (and now Lindholm!). Also really enjoyed his interview on HNIC. A must watch if you haven't seen it. He opens up quite a bit, more then I've ever seen and tells some pretty funny stories about his equipment and dog. Seems like a really good kid.

I hate to be the Debbie downer, and I hate to think like this, but I really hope this recognition doesn’t effect Sean’s game and he slides into one of his cold streaks.

Out of curiosity, what would make you think that?

While in the past success has made the entire team complacent, confidence helps individual scorers.

And Monahan's droughts (which have been relatively few and short) have usually come when he is (a) hurt or (b) trying to play defensively. I've never seen him act like he's too satisfied with his own play.
