Because the cap is going up, the Pasternak and ehlers deals look like good value now and Draisatl got $8.5m. I don't think he's worth 8m but he's got a case in asking for it.

It seems like Nylander knows he is the odd man out when it comes to Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Reilly. He signs for $6M and is traded in a year when the cap crunch becomes too much for the Leafs to keep everyone. He wants to be paid then so at least he gets top dollar when they trade him for a draft pick to a rebuilding team trying to accelerate their process

Deal Mike Smith to the Senators. They could use... anyone... in net.

Nylander should be playing by now. What a screw up from all parties involved. It really is crazy IMO that this has gone on as long as it has.

I wonder if this debacle is going to have a ripple effect in later leafs contract negotiations.

Does Rinne’s two year extension maybe mean Saros is available? Can’t imagine he wants to keep sitting.

Rinne will likely transition into being a very well paid backup.

And Saros an extremely low paid starter.
The Predators just saved $2 million in their goalie position for next 2 years and are loaded at the position.

HNIC:
Fehr has told the players he plans on staying for at least one more CBA negotiation
CBA talks have begun
NHL doesn't want a World Cup followed by a lockout or work stoppage
League has told players that decision needs to be made on World Cup by All Star game
Could know by this January if there is likely to be a lockout
Some teams would like to see expanded playoffs with the expansion to Seattle.
With 32 teams, 16 teams will miss the playoffs
Want play-in style format
Should note Bettman doesn't feel that expanded playoffs are needed
Still a push by some teams to go that direction
Carolina has made it clear they will be all in if Leafs decide to trade Nylander

We may have to live with the Smith/Rittich tandem this season and hope we aren't the new Dallas Stars who could score but not keep pucks out of the net.

Bobrovsky For Smith, 2019 1st, Gillies or Parsons?

Columbus is able to push ahead this season with a still-capable veteran netminder in its quest for a long playoff run, and also get a couple future assets for a top goalie.

Calgary would have good depth in net for the immediate future.
Sergei Bobrovsky (signed 4 years minimum) UFA 2023-24
David Rittich RFA 2019-20
Jon Gillies RFA 2020-21 or Tyler Parsons RFA 2020-21

I lean this way myself, but on the other hand, there is definitely some value to both A. Sorting out your goalie situation before January, and B. Not having to fight multiple other teams who could sign him.
A lot of factors at play, and if he doesn’t want to sign here or the trade happens near the deadline or at the draft the value is nowhere near a 1st rounder, but if it’s a deal that could happen in the next two months with an extension in place, I think you absolutely include the 1st rounder.

Bob would make the Flames instant contenders. If an extension was in place swap the 19 pick for 2020 1st pick.

Nothing to say Treliving can't pick up a first with a different deal as well.
If Bob isn't signed it'd have to be a conditional deal, like with Kane.
