It seems like Nylander knows he is the odd man out when it comes to Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Reilly. He signs for $6M and is traded in a year when the cap crunch becomes too much for the Leafs to keep everyone. He wants to be paid then so at least he gets top dollar when they trade him for a draft pick to a rebuilding team trying to accelerate their process

The Flames have given up a lot of draft picks in trades over the years with the Hamonic and Hamilton deals and I'm not sure it's worth trading another 1st round pick (I can't see why they would ask for less unless there's a prospect or roster player they are interested in) for a guy that can be had in free agency in July. We may have to live with the Smith/Rittich tandem this season and hope we aren't the new Dallas Stars who could score but not keep pucks out of the net.

The Blue Jackets also have Stanley Cup hopes, but it doesn’t look like they’ll be able to re-sign Sergei Bobrovsky, who himself is a pending UFA.

Columbus is able to push ahead this season with a still-capable veteran netminder in its quest for a long playoff run, and also get a couple future assets for a top goalie.

Calgary would have good depth in net for the immediate future.

Sergei Bobrovsky (signed 4 years minimum) UFA 2023-24
David Rittich RFA 2019-20
Jon Gillies RFA 2020-21 or Tyler Parsons RFA 2020-21

I lean this way myself, but on the other hand, there is definitely some value to both A. Sorting out your goalie situation before January, and B. Not having to fight multiple other teams who could sign him.

A lot of factors at play, and if he doesn’t want to sign here or the trade happens near the deadline or at the draft the value is nowhere near a 1st rounder, but if it’s a deal that could happen in the next two months with an extension in place, I think you absolutely include the 1st rounder.

Bob would make the Flames instant contenders. If an extension was in place swap the 19 pick for 2020 1st pick.

If Bob isn't signed it'd have to be a conditional deal, like with Kane.
