One day, I'll be trying to talk hockey and they'll be saying, 'The game has passed you by, dad.' I'll be able to say, 'Ovechkin's on it, and he's still lighting it up.' " - Jarome Iginla

Reason: Black Screen
Thinking about it, this Smith bailout may do wonders for his confidence. Or performance. Based on what he has said, and reports from the “insiders”, I think Smith has excused his poor performance thus far this season based on the team not playing well in front of him defensively.
The crutch is gone. Gut check time for that guy.
He shouldn't be starting for this team anymore, period. This team won in spite of Smith and has an 8-5 record in spite of Smith. People were calling for him to be waived when it was 4-1 and a big victory should not change the fact that he has used up his opportunities thus far and the only way he can win back his job is playing great as a backup to Rittich.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but I got a kick out of Jamie Macoun's comment in the post game show, something along the line of "There's Harvey the Hound, he could have been in net there". Funny, yet true.

Let me get this straight, the Flames win a game with a crazy comeback. They take first in the Pacific and all you do is bring negativity in this thread? How? Enjoy the win!

Come back kids are back! Gio with another monster game and the 3M line was the best line of the entire game. Even though the bottom 6 isn’t producing, I do see an improvement in play over the last season’s bottom 6 which was just one of the slowest and ineffective in the entire league. Hope these guys can start potting some in because they’ve worked hard out there.
I didn’t even get to watch this game because I am in #### town, and was blown away by the comeback. Just wTched the highlights. Unreal.
But this is an 82 game season and, even as (die hard) fans of this team it is important to keep perspective. Pointing to the fact that we have 17 points as some sort of fake barometer of success is not helpful. We’ve played as many or more games than any team in the conference.
It’s a strawman.
This is a playoff team from the blueline out. I wasn’t sure pre season, but am now. And, as hard as I’ve been on smith (he’s been awful) I think he can be better. I think this game will make him better. It has to.
I agree it's a stat that has to be taken with care, but it's not a "strawman".

Watching Dube tonight was awesome, you can see he is on the cusp of taking off. Almost 10 mins of ice time and even on the night, and his forcheck played a huge roll in generating a key turnover. I can't wait for him to get his first goal.

On what grounds do you believe Rittich can't take us there? A 21 game sample size? The stats for goaltenders in the first season let alone 21 games have always been historically bad. They're facing the best shooters in the world for the very first time.
Rittich has looked comfortable in every game situation is has been thrown in to thus far this season. He deserves the opportunity. I deserve to breathe normally when the pucks in our end.
I was the game again tonight, amazing atmosphere in the lower 200s, it all began with laughable Bronx cheers for Smith in the 2nd and early third. That stupid, stupid play by Cole turned the game, a cheap shot like that when your up 4-1. Sam Bennett tuned him in really well and got in some really good shots to the ear, he definitely hurt him. The team, the section and the Saddledome was really jacked up during that fight.
Personally I was ready to give the Flames a standing ovation at 4-1 they were playing so well, the score was all on Smith and they just needed some finish and passion. At 4-2 I had a good feeling and then they just pored it on, another great moment was the Valimaki hit and the Neal goal that tied it. I would say for the team showed real character, long term they need to solve this goalie problem though, the goals went right through Smith and he was very weak.

It's not a strawman as it's not an argument. It is a positive outlook, not a fake barometer, based on stats so far this season. You're not the only person that knows there are 82 games in a season lol, nobody thinks the season ends tomorrow, and you're not being anything other than negative in that regard because...who knows. Enjoy the successes and feel free to keep your negativity to yourself as it provides no tangible insight.
Amazing game, Go Flames!
