I said this in the game thread but I'll say it again here. I think we need to pull Gaudreau off the top PP line. We have 4 other talented players basically waiting for whatever Johnny does. It doesn't make sense, put Gaudreau on the second PP and give them substantially more time. This could give us 2 different looks on the power play, and force our other stars to step up on zone entries.
That's actually a great idea for a 1-2 punch.

Thank you Canucks for letting us have Tkachuk!

Game Takes:
Flames 2 Sabres 1

- another come from behind point(s)
- Tkachuk ties it up
- the usual trio converge in overtime
- Rittich solid
- points in three straight
- powerplay is hopeless

I'm thinking this too, and I would guess there's a plan to get Rittich more starts as the season goes on. Especially if he keeps running with the ball right now. Slow and steady progression and he might actually turn out to be a possible solution. The guy is extremely composed and positions himself very good. That's things you like in a potential starter, and the team is playing with confidence in front of him.

Flames play with that kind of commitment to D, both goalies will be fine.

3-3 >>> 4-4. Lucky it was frozen right after Pk. I’d do it on purpose if possible in that situation every time as long as Gaudreau is on the team.

Rittich has good fundamentals and composure

Tkachuk says he is hard to score on

I really like Rittich in net

On changes, one things that is often cited as being the difference between very good and elite players is that elite players never stop working on their game. IMHO, Johnny needs to work on his shot. Out front I'll say that I hate the Canucks more than any other team, Oilers included, and hate everyone that dons one of their sweaters. But in watching Pettersson this year what's jumped out to me is that he combines shiftiness and vision with a snapshot that can beat a goalie clean. Kane has a similar repertoire. Johnny needs to add that last ingredient, and it may come from getting away from his 55-flex stick. As it is, he's no threat on the PP to take the puck on the half-wall and hurt the opposition with anything other than a pass.
You must have a hard time enjoying things.

One step at a time.

Just an incredible performance by the entire team tonight. I thought they played really well in all facets, even the PP that went 0 for had some great puck movement and looks. Credit goes to the BUF goalie. Stuck with it and they came through for each other. Fantastic road trip!

On another note, I was pretty disappointed by Jankowski's game tonight. Looked a little slow and lazy. Spent a lot of the night hemmed in his own zone. Peters really cut his ice time in the 3rd too.

I think I will have to look at his advanced metrics and see if I have any biases when it comes to him and making me see the mistakes more and remembering those and just not noticing the good he does. You might be right. I just keep seeing players passing the puck to him and thinking: "Don't screw it up" and then I see a screw-up.

Guess I will try to have to have a more open mind for the next couple of games and see if I am not being overly negative when it comes to him. I actually really hate having a 'whipping boy' in my head when watching Flames' games - even Brouwer didn't annoy me... and I would bet he is a good deal better than Brouwer.

As bad as PP2 is, I don't know if loading it up with left shots is going to solve the problem.

I do however believe the best way to fix PP2 is to go back to something resembling what worked the last time we had a half-decent PP2:

Giordano-Hamilton
Bennett-Backlund
Tkachuk

That was actually a highly effective 5 man unit that year. We rocked the boat the next year because Versteeg got hurt, and it was a mistake.

So make it

Giordano-Andersson
Bennett-Backlund
Tkachuk

Then make PP1

Brodie
Gaudreau-Lindholm
Monahan
Neal

People hate Brodie's propensity to pass on the PP but that's exactly what you need in that role as he basically lets the forwards do the work.
I like it, I think I'd rather have Hanifin though, he just has a lot better offensive instincts than Brodie

I was at a sportsbar watching with my colleague from Buffalo--it wasn't the best game to watch without sound! I really want to know what was being said during that waved off goal....but who cares, we won! Yayyyy!

Thought our D in general played very well.
Andersson looking good. 17mins of icetime tonight, all at 5v5. If he doesn't hold the line on the tying goal, that puck doesn't go in.

Hamonic/Hanifin are solid, especially Hamonic tonight. Valimaki I thought struggled today with the some of the bigger forwards on Buffalo.

I just went back on my DVR and you're right!

The whole bench is watching intently and Neal has a huge ass grin on his face. I'll grab it when I can.
