Monahan? He's not a perfect player, but I'm extremely happy with how he progressed
Y
Ya I think most teams would do back flips if their #6 overall pick turned out as good as Monohan.
Nothing wrong with how he turned out imo.
Bennett has been an obvious disappointment but there is still time for him. I was really hoping Sam Reinhart would fall to the Flames that draft but obviously never did
At least the Calgary Flames have won a Stanley Cup.
A dozen teams have never won one.
How would you like to be a fan of St. Louis - 51 years?
Vancouver & Buffalo - 48 years?
Things could always be a lot worse.

No kidding. So much wallowing in self pity here jeez.
Newsflash for everyone: Cheering/watching sports is supposed to be fun. Being a Flames fan isn't a sentence, if it's bringing you down or making you sad just stop.
Yea the Flames have had some disappointing years (I didn't know they lost in the first every year in the early 90s). They've had more than some teams and less than others. That's sports, it's hard, competitive, and only one team wins every year. If you can't handle it then stop, I swear some of you only follow the team so you have something to bitch about.

There's 31 teams in the league soon to be 32. The measuring stick can't just be winning Cups, post season success has to come into play. Winning a playoff series is a huge pay off for fans and feels really good. I think it's a legit bone to pick for fans here to want more than 1st round exits. 1989 was a long time ago. Trust me, I'm a Bomber fan.

Misery is a strong word. When I think misery, I think living in extreme poverty or being oppressed by a crazy psychopath dictator where I could die at any time. Some perspective is needed; it's a game that none of us play professionally where we simply want our favorite team to win so we can have a warm fuzzy feeling in our heart and feel happy. Hardly ''misery'', and if it is you have other issues in your life.
But I agree, it sucks the team has been mediocre/terrible for 1/4 of a century outside of a couple seasons.
But it's our curse. Some teams are simply cursed to never live up to expectations. The Flames are one of them.
Maybe it's just me but I hold the Flames to a higher standard than loser DNA teams like Vancouver.
Loser DNA teams like Vancouver? Both teams have winning %'s of comfortably under .500 over the life of their franchises. Let's not get too high and mighty here. And yes, so does the team I cheer for.

The Flames are something like 200 games over .500 in their history.

I just went off of all time wins as a % of total games played off Wikipedia. Probably not the best approach upon further consideration but the point probably stands ultimately. None of the western Canadian teams has much to write home about historically, aside from Edmonton but they've more than balanced that off over the past decade or so.

The Edmonton argument.
The Cup winning Flames have absolutely nothing to do with the Flames of today, other than they were both Flames.
Everything about the franchise is different.
The Flames win in 89 has no more bearing for today than the Oilers cup wins.
Being a fan of the Blues or Canucks or Sabres may indeed suck, but it has nothing to do with Calgary's lack of success in a very long time.
