Smith stinks but what are the Flames options? Both Glilies and Parsons are stinking in up in the A now. I’m already looking at this as another lost season.

Same old problems: number 1C is not a 1C; goalies are mediocre at best; team D is a disgrace. I hate being super negative but I just don’t see this as a good team.

Which would be what? If that went far side and he was "tracking the puck" near side it would be lambasted as well L.

A player shot a 70km shot into the top 6 inch by 6 inch position in the net, passing past two sets of 6' players which obstructed the goalies view.
You get the sense that some here with either competely negative attitudes about the team or the player no matter what , and spin what happens on the ice, whatever it takes for what happened to fit their narrative... and or, in this case talking about screen shots, people who've never played street ice, floor or field hockey to get even the most basic sense of what a screen and screen shot actually is.

If Smith had been standing on his head the past week I could give him the benefit of the doubt on that third goal. He hasn’t so I can’t. That was a weak goal in my opinion.

Have we still got our first pick next summer? Might be a good one...

at least we have our first round pick this year, but i don't see this roster being bad enough to finish bottom 5 and get someone who can help now

And if Backlund got the puck low to one of his teammates on the PP like he should've, there would've been no break the other way for the Caps in the first place. Smiths fault though.

How would you know who has played hockey here?

It was an okay save. Right time and opportunity. Could've been in a better position farther out of the net initially instead of sliding past the net beyond the right post with that weird right foot kick thing he did. The kick pushed the puck to the front of the net directly onto the tape of the Caps player.

Both Flames skaters back-checking had no reaction as they probably thought it was a goal and then we got lucky as hell with an empty net miss.

Smith should've been farther out, more confident, head up, and stick to a traditional butterfly and making himself as large as possible.

I don't hate Smith, but it's clearly apparent that the team doesn't trust him anymore.

I want him to turn it around as much as the next guy on this forum. But something needs to change. Either Smith, Sigalet or the powerplay with the 1 defensemen quarterback.

Great shot by Brodie. Anyone infront of the net pops that in.

What do you want him to do specifically on that play? The D needs to move Jaskin from in front of the net, all Smith can do is try and see around him, which was made even more difficult by Valimaki and another Cap blocking the shot from being seen as well.

Jaskin wasn't the reason why Smith didn't see the shot it was Valimaki and the Caps guy on the high circle that blocked the view.

It's not a perfect world, you can't move every guy out of the way.

IMO Smith needs to stop this type of shot coming from the point.

Calgary as had a bunch of chances where the puck came in front but no one was there to pot a rebound.

Flames on the front foot again. Just gotta keep battling, as it's not coming easy.

Brodie could be sitting in the press box and we would still blame him. that's the season he's having so far.

So playing net, you have to anticipate by the way people are moving where the puck is and when it is released. Sometimes you effectively reconstruct a 3D dynamic model of what is happening by inference.

There is a big difference between how easily you can save a puck you see right off the stick and one you don’t

Smith plays re-actively instead of proactively. He just hugs the goal line and goes back and forth. He rarely comes out to challenge the shooter anymore.
