Thing that pissed me off the most about this game is that nobody got mad. They just withered away into the sunset

Yes this! I missed that team that has the mentality of you might beat me on the score sheet, but I'm going to beat you up on the ice.

I hope the Flames owners are happy with whatever big payoff they received for agreeing to that fiasco.
The other side is that you get team building, you prep the NHL roster without the nuisance of evaluating a bunch of guys who are going to get cut anyway.

That’s not the problem, it’s a lame excuse . Other teams have done it

So your conclusion is that we lost 9-1 because we played the preseason in China?

Is that honestly what you think the problem is here?

The team - collectively - will never be as open to Peters' message as they will be this evening and tomorrow. If he wants to hammer home his message, this will be his best opportunity.
I don’t really agree. When you get blitzed like that, it’s not the coach that can pull you out of it. Sure he can dress Derek Ryan again, start Rittich, yell and scream and tell them everything he has told them since training camp.

If all the players quit as you say they did, no coach can fix that. Hell if I were Peters I wouldn’t say a word to these guys for a while. Let them figure out if they care.

Let’s see the team’s best players and supposed leaders come up with a passionate effort against Washington. Then Peters will have something to work with. If they’re not interested in doing that, then we can roll through as many coaches as you want.

I’m not defending Peters. Just suggesting the players need to ultimately fix this.

Yet another “burn the tape and move on” game.

Gonna have an Inglorius Basterds level bonfire by the end of October thanks to this train wreck of a team.

What an embarrassing game. This team better wake the f up now. If this doesn’t light a fire under their arses, and they start playing better than a junior B team, then Tre better pack his bags.
This team looks weak, and pathetic.

Default Flames get taken to the woodshed, thumped 9-1 by the Pens

1. This team needs a great goaltender. You can’t be a great team without a great goaltender. You can’t even consistently be a “good team” without a great goaltender. So, here we are.

2. The mental make-up of this team is troublesome. We can say “3 defenceman 21 and under” all we want, but this inability to battle through a weak goal against or a bad penalty call is problematic.

3. It’s time to blow up the lines from the start of the game. The team can’t win games consistently enough with the Gaudreau-Monahan/Tkachuk-Backlund duos. Don’t care who is doing what, the team isn’t working. It’s better that Peters makes changes mid-game, but don’t even bother starting games that way now.

4. The PP needs to be re-worked, ditto with the PK.

5. Acquire a goalie that inspires confidence through top level play.

Disagree. If you hear about how Sutter talked to guys, he would push each guy’s buttons the right way.

Sutter is a winner. This roster is too good to be a bunch of losers.

Going to China is not like taking a little getaway to Banff for some peace and quiet and having the guys do team building exercises at the banff centre. It was a bad idea given the all the offseason changes this year.

Flames should be 0-4 in their last four with three really poor efforts.

Something is rotten here. Unfortunately since the Kipper days the Flames have not enjoyed the consistent high level goaltending that some other teams do that hides other problems.

A good buddy of mine is a caps fan, and I'm certain that between the two of us, tonights results was the worst imaginable. Both teams lost in terrible fashion to each other's worst rivals, and to top it all off, Alex Chiasson scored for the Oilers. This has not been a good night of hockey.

Also, very soon it's gonna get even worse for one of us as we face the Caps next.

But at least the Kings lost. There's that.

At the moment yes. i think the trip to China is part of the reason why the team looks like it is still in pre season mode.

I think Sutter is our best shot to being honest with these primadonnas but I’m not sure you can cure what ails the Players of this team.

How many times have we seen a scrum or something bad happen to teammates and not even shoves? Just a wilting flower that hangs their heads and glides away.

Guess what? Ya- you’re small. Ya- you probably may get your ass kicked. But at least grow a spine and stand up for yourself or your teammates. Your bruises will heal and at least you can have some pride and look each other in the eyes. But this sorry pathetic gliding away and collecting your gigantic and unearned paycheques? Enough is enough. Nobody cares to watch you not care.

I dunno, man.

- If you have Pavel Datsyuk and Mike Babcock you can get away with Jimmy Howard.
- If you have Jonathan Toews and Q, you can get by with Corey Crawford.

I think thats where we differ - I think outside of generational leaders (of which there are very few), coaches are the leader and they have a huge influence on culture.

The best flames teams of the past 20 years have been Sutter, Hartley and Keenan. IE - the best coaches. Stanley cup calibre coaches. What do these coaches have in common? They lead. They set expectations. They will make players play the right way. They have the levers and they pull them - they can sit players, they can reduce ice time, they can reduce special teams time, they can demote players to the fourth line. They can sit players for a period. They can bag skate players. They can scratch players. They can do so so many things. They can call a player out in front of the entire team.

Yay, same 5-5 start as last year. At least the goal differential is up from minus 5 to minus 3!

But let's all be excited about the fact that Peters can technically do the very basics of coaching!

(Excuse me if I've grown a bit cynical.)
