Wasn't Geoff Ward hired mainly because of his successful PPs on other teams. Nothing has changed from last year - why he hasn't implemented any changes is baffling

The whole set up has changed and weren’t they Top 5 PP in the league going into last night? (Edit: not even close)

Last nights issue was effort. The team mailed it in.

No.
They are currently 22nd at 15.8 percent.

Just went back, and it was Ball:

“Flames power play coming into the game is 18.2%,” then I heard: “ that’s 5th back in the league” but I think he said “a bit back in the league” haha.

Well, when you keep changing the coaches and the results do not change it may in fact be that the players are just not good enough. Off the bat, I can think of at least 10 teams(probably more) that have superior personnel so the starting point would be 11th best.

As an example over the long run you are never going to surpass a PP that has Burns, Thornton, and Karlsson, or Taveras and Mathews for that matter. Perhaps a realistic goal would be somewhere between 10-15.

It's strange that to the eye the biggest need was a one time threat and sniper on the PP. we sign James Neal and play him behind the net.

He was playing in the TJ Oshie spot in the slot on one of them. But was surrounded by 3 guys. All he could do it one touch it back to Backlund on the half wall.

The most obvious need for change on the PP is Johnys role. Too often he is the first guy in trying to retrieve the puck that had to be dumped in because there was no available entry.

We are also seeing too many guys standing still with the puck. If the team is not in a spot where they can toss it around without holding onto it (such as a Capitals or Penguins team) then at the very least, you need to move around when you have the puck. Montreal was great at this last night. They had no real structure but whoever had the puck was moving around taking advantage of 5 vs 4 and eventually someone became open enough for a quality chance.

Once again, they didn't wake up for the first period. And it translated over into the second as well.

Sure there was a bunch of missed calls by the refs, but the boys never converted on the PP anyways for the ones that they did have.

Loved Gio's hit that initiated the goal scoring play, but why wait until the 3rd when your frustrated to up the ante, go out and win within the first few shift. Bennett does this all the time too, passive passive passive, then the 3rd comes around and he lays someone out.

There's a lot of spots to clean up on this team, but I think starting on time has to be the biggest one. They dominated play for the better part of the 3rd, and they have the tools/lineup to do that for 60 minutes, they just don't.

How does Jordie Benn not get a suspension or a call from the league for that hit from behind on Gaudreau? No wonder his mom wishes Jamie had a brother.

The underlying problem is still the overall team speed. Despite Treliving's efforts, this team still isn't fast enough which hampers their ability to play at a pace that Bill Peters wants them to play at. Watching 2 very fast teams like the Canadiens and the Rangers dominate us by just sheer skating ability and constant pressure was eye opening. We could do nothing to stop the constant hounding and back pressure.

It was akin to watching the Vegas Golden Knights have their way with us like last season. Once again this season, we look slow to get back into the play, slow on the backcheck which makes us slow to react and then slow to defend. It's probably a big reason as to why we have slow starts too.

The best thing about having a faster team to me is that if you're having a lazy game, you're still a fast team and won't be so easily outskated. If you're an opponent, having to play against a team that applies consistent back pressure, hounds you on the forecheck and makes shifts miserable for you. That sounds like the type of team I would want to build.

Is there a video of the hit on Brodie that TJ retaliated to? I am hearing about the hit but I have to find a video of the hit.

That record is also even money or better to be 5-6 after the next 2 games.

Would be nice if Neal is not scoring, could show some of that nasty Neal side, the real deal.

I was keenly disappointed that Garnet Hathaway did not get to break Max Domi's face again.
