Or is it?

That's why he was drifting aimlessly in overtime and not moving his feet at all. Poor puddin was exhausted

Oh, agreed! But do you get the message that sends to the rest of the team?

"None of the rest of you are good enough and I dont trust you."

“Beautiful play, beautiful goal,” McDavid said. “Not much we could do there.”

Ya, there is. Your controller could have been engaged and you could have tried to stop him...

Yeah, at least his two linemates made the attempt. McDavid was not taking Crosby, taking another Penguin, looking to make a break out of the zone, heading to the bench, or going to the net to clear a rebound. He was just gliding and staring at Crosby.

McDavid's thought process on that play:

1) If my D get the puck, they'll pass it to me and I'll be on a breakaway.

2) If my D don't get the puck, I won't get blamed because I've already scored twice in this game.

So basically a no-lose scenario for McDavid.

3) I've never been this close to such greatness. I better watch and take notes.

The funny thing is it was OT, so Edmonton didn't have any D on the ice....so yeah, basically it was no different than 5 on 5.

Although there's no evidence of any defensive awareness by him on the play, Darnell Nurse is technically a defenceman.

How is it that he's at 13 points in 7 games and he's at a +/- 0

Yeah it is ridiculous how much ice time they are giving McDavid.

A top defenceman playing close to 30 minutes is no big deal. They get shifts in the offensive zone where little skating is required and can also sit back to conserve energy at times without hurting the team. A centre on the other hand is the most demanding position on the team. You are taking faceoffs, covering the other centre, supporting the wingers on the forecheck, supporting the defence on the backcheck, and generally just doing a lot of skating all over the rink. A centre cannot just relax on some of their shifts to conserve energy without consequences.

Double shifting McDavid may be keeping the Oilers heads above water and save McLellan's job for now but it is not sustainable long term.
