I'd sit Brodie at this point, his play has been the most suspect.

This is 2018. You should be ok with anyone coming out.

Really tough choice who sits no question about it, might come down to waiver eligibility

I don't think so. I think he has made as many mistakes as Brodie but just hasn't been the subject of the same scrutiny.

He's the worst transition D-man on the roster IMO. He is terrible at clearing the puck or making a first pass, and he's usually second in getting to it (which is why he has more hits).

This seems like an easy solution. Demote Prout, sit Stone, play Andersson.

After what I've seen from Andersson and Valimaki, neither of them deserve to be sent to Stockton. Both have outplayed Brodie. Keep them both in the lineup.

The issue is it comes down to you have a right handed D coming back, so you need to sit another right D. Andersson, Brodie, Stone are the other right D so I pick Stone.

Just like Peters seems to be using the 13th forward spot as a bit of a 'time out for a game' spot because of middling to bad performances, I feel like you have a strong case to use the 7th defenceman spot to sit out whoever isn't up to scratch, rather than giving it to an extra guy where all he does is sit in the pressbox eating popcorn. That's what our 14th forward facepuncher in Peluso is for.

I think its just fine to sit either rookie occasionally. 60 to 70 NHL games in a season is a ton of experience and leave them somewhat fresh for a playoff run. The NHL season is stupid long as it is, much less for rookie defensemen.

Brodie is playing much tougher assignments than Valimaki and Andersson so it isn't a good comparison.

You have to believe that one of them could outplay Brodie on the top line to support this assertion.

That said Andersson deserves to stay up. So I would rotate between defensemen the same way we have been doing with forwards.

Well Anderson did play with Gio last night and I would imagine he got pretty tough assignments as a result.

Rittich bailed them all out

Right, but Andersson didn't look any worse than Brodie (who had Hanifin IIRC). Gio makes everyone look better obviously. I'm not saying Andersson is better right now, but it seems like he can handle things.

Anyway, he can't stay after Hamonic comes back because he was an emergency call-up. If he does stay he has to be waived next time, if I have things correct. And you have to send someone else down. I don't think it's Valimaki because he'd have to go to junior for good.

You can send Prout but then you end up either sitting Andersson quite a bit or Stone. You aren't sitting Brodie or Hamonic.

Yeah I have a feeling the 7th defenseman is going to be a steady rotation where any of the bottom 4 that has a tough game or two rotates out.

Friedman on 960 right now saying he thinks there's "great concern about how Brodie is playing" but he doesn't believe they will move him.

No that isn't correct, he wasn't recalled on emergency basis for one, and secondly he doesn't require waivers at all this season.

Prout will need to be waived if we want to keep him up.

Edit: also Valimaki doesn't have to go back to junior, I can understand the confusion due to the 9 game contract slide rule, but he is done with junior hockey. He's eligible to be sent to the A.

I thought someone said he was an emergency callup. But I stand corrected on that and his waiver eligibility. Also Valimaki. But V's not going anywhere anyway. He plays the opposite side, and has not had much difficulty at all.

I think you could waive Prout without danger. At the end of the day it's a development issue.

Brodie hasn't been half as bad as some are making him out to be. Same with Stone. Both have 4 assists in 8 games and are positive in the +/-.

Hamonic can stay out as far as I'm concerned. For a defensive D man, he isn't very good at defense, has zero offense and really isn't that physical. Plus he certainly wont be challenging anyone to beat his head in anytime soon. Its becoming more obvious game after game that Valimaki and Andersson are simply better options going forward.

If I'm Treliving I'm putting Hamonics name out for possible trade regardless of the kings ransom I gave up to get him in the first place.

Hamonic was arguably the Flames best defenseman in Game #1—his only game of the season—while playing most of it with facial damage. In his absence the Flames have struggled in their own zone and are currently ranked #16 in goals surrendered per GP. Hamonic is a lot better than some people are willing to notice or admit

Yeah but since game one he’s been practically invisible on the ice! Valimaki and Andersson have had way more presence.

Explain THAT.
