JACKETS JUMP THE SHARKS
John Tortarella before his infamous Shark jump act from back in the 1970's
After putting up one of their worst efforts in Sylvanfan's short regime as Jackets GM the team responded with a solid effort to down the lowly CPHL Sharks 6-2.
Cory Stillman got off to a quick start scoring goals 30 seconds apart just after the mid way point of the first period en route to his first hat trick of the season. Peter Cajanek, Pierre Turgeon, and Dave Scatchard also scored for the Jackets who held period leads of 4-0 and 4-2. Cajanek also finished the night with 3 points as he had a goal and two assists. Adrian Aucoin, and Brian Rafalski both collected a pair of assists and finished the night +4. Pierre Turgeon also had a multiple point game as he tallied a goal and an assist. Backup Brent Johnson is creating a goaltending controversy in Columbus as he won for the 7th time in his last 8 starts and now sports a record of 7-3 as a Jacket with a goals against average of 2.93 and a save percentage around .900.
With the win the Jackets finally leap frog over the struggling Dallas Stars and up to 5th in the Howe Conference with 39 points. Still things remain extremely close as no less than 5 teams all sit within two points of the Blue Jackets. Theres a definite split after the top 4 right now, and GM Sylvanfan feels that within another 2 weeks it will be as many as 10 teams within 6 points of each other battling for 5 playoff spots in the Howe. As the season progresses things are starting to look more like conventional wisdom suggests they should have in the Howe. Especially the Red Wings falling further back of everyone else.
