I'm really dumb with DVD's, I still don't own one, but don't you need to use a DVD in a DVD player?

I don't think so, i've had friends do this exact same thing and have it work (although i'm not sure what process they went thru in burning)

I have not done this myself but I MAY be able to help. First off, the choice between discs. CD-R vs CD-RW. I think the only difference is one you use once while the other (the CD-RW) could be written to again.
2nd-How old is YOUR DVD player? It's possible yours just dosen't have the software to recognize the format you are using to burn the images to CD. Any newer DVD player should be able to read your CD while an older (or possibly cheaper model) may not.
I'm assuming you are burning the images to CD in a .jpp format?

Well the reason i used CD-R is because when i use to burn music CD-RW would never play in stereo or car system because the disk is not of same quality as a CD-r (so i was told/read) but i think it's different now..as most modern stereos etc will play both types.
DVD player was bought in 2002.
Yes images are in .jpg.
I didnt use any burning software, just the little "write files to cd" in top left corner of folder when i copy/pasted the images to the disk....so maybe i need to specify an image cd in some sort of writing software?
thanks for the help/reply.

This disk is heading over to good ol' England....will it play in an English DVD player even though it's N.American or does this stuff only apply to videos?

Yep, 2002 is fairly old in the DVD player world, I suspect yours will look for DVD only, no other type of format. Most of the ones sold today will recognize various file types.
Like I said, I don't have a ton of experience with this kind of thing, I don't often burn media to any type of CD but I don't think burning straight from the file is the way to go. I'm sure Windows will have some type of wizard in it that will assist you with burning files to a cd that may work out better for you.
Going over to good ol Enland shouldn't make any difference. Assuming of course they have a more recent DVD player. But if push comes to shove, the could just look at the images on their computer.

Well the person i'm sending it to has a newer DVD player than 2002 so i hope it's just mine it dosen't work on...as i was just testing to see if it worked.
But the problem is, my brother also sent a disk over a few months ago and it did not pick up the cd....but they have saw pictures on the tv from their DVD player in the past so it can't be the issue of an old dvd player....so i figure it's the way i'm burning.
Anyways i've downloaded a trial version of Nero Burning and i'm going to try to see if there is an option for a "Picutre" cd" or something.
At this rate, there will be 3 of the same disks making the journey lol
Thanks for all replys and help--much appreciated.

There is a handy DVD player guide at http://www.vcdhelp.com
On the left hand side, click on "DVD players" and enter your make/model
info.
It will tell you what features your player has, like CD-R, CDRW, JPB, etc., plus
some reviews.

Had an idea!

Try playing a music CD in your DVD player...since you got it from 2002...it might not read anything else but DVDs.

i thought all dvd players played music cds. i had/still have somewhere a dvd player from 2000 that plays music cds.
maybe it has something to do with burning it though windows own write to cd method. i always use Nero when making a cd for backup/pictures.
some dvd players cannot read dvd-r/w or dvd+r/w. i know my playstation can play dvd-r but not dvd-rw. read the forums at www.afterdawn.com for more advice.

The problem is two-fold - modern DVD players, the kind that cost like $25 at Wal-Mart will play about anything right off the disc as they have built in software and decoders, etc. Plus they can read just about any type of disc you throw at them.
A player as old as 2002 in my experience, just doesn't cut it usually. I have a 2002 Sanyo player that can't play any rewritable media and it won't display pictures, etc.
In that case, you can try using a program such as Ahead Nero to create a picture CD or a slideshow or a media CD with the CD or DVD authoring tools - or find another CD or DVD authoring tool. I'm guessing with the kind of player you have, it just isn't able to read jpegs right off the disc or the laser may be too old to reliably read writable media.
By far, the easiest thing you can do is go over to Wal-Mart or Superstore or Costco or anything and buy a $25 DVD player. Wal-Mart even has set-top DVD-Recorders now so you could even do it from your couch. I think those only run like $100-150 there.
