I know that it's early, but I'm very encouraged by the play of Andersson and Valamaki.
Yes, they are both making rookie mistakes, but they both skate and pass better than I had expected of them this early.

What's great is we have such depth that we don't need him to score right now. The hope would be that he gets hot when Gaudreau or Tkachuk cool off. As long as a couple of our many weapons are going then we can put up goals..

I feel that hit on Gaudreau is 99% the same as the Matheson hit on Pettersson. I felt that was a 2 minute roughing penalty and I think this one was the right call at two minutes for interference.

Saw this pointed out elsewhere but on the Gaudreau goal the Flames sent out Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm with Andersson-Hanifin.
Monahan is the oldest player in that group of 5 at 24 years old! And he only just turned 24 last week.
Edit: Oops, the stat was brought up after a shift where Bennett had replaced Gaudreau.

Gaudreau is older than Monahan. Still pretty crazy though.

This . If your only scoring 20 to 30 goals a year that means there is 70 to 80 games your not.
No need to panic yet.

Okay thoughts on the game tonight since I just got home.
Valimaki will never play a game in the AHL. He is here to stay and will be playing top 4 minutes before we know it.
Hathaway was noticeable in a bad way which was unfortunate anytime there seemed to be a whistle that involved us on the bad end he was right there.
Gaudreau hit didn't look that bad live. If it was up to him I think he would have stayed in the game but the concussion protocol guys made him go.
What can you say about that second line? They went toe to toe with the best line in hockey and came out on top. Terrific bounce back performance from Frolik coming off a healthy scratch.
Can we talk about Matthew Tkachuk for a second? This 20 year old is on pace for 123 points after 6 games while playing on a line that starts in the defensive zone the majority of the time. Absolute stud and Treliving has his work cut out for him when it comes to trying to get this kid at a bargain on his new contract.
Thought this was Anderssons best game in the NHL by quite a margin. He was noticeably good. It's awesome to see us have so much depth on the blueline.
All in all.. great game. This Bruins team came in on a 4 game win streak and a 8-2 win and we shut them down hard.

So Bennett-Monahan-Lindholm plus Andersson-Hanifin.

Just watched the game. Pretty complete effort from the Flames.
- Peters is worlds apart from GG. Sitting Frolik, using timeouts, proper challenges.
- The 3M line was really good, especially Frolik. Good for him for coming back strong.
- Continued to be impressed by Valimaki, Andersson and Hanifin. The blueline looks set for the next decade.
- Smith came up with big saves when they were needed.
- The PP needs some work and I don't think Ryan or Czarnik should be there over Bennett or Janko.
Haven't read the thread yet, but hopefully Johnny is ok. McEvoy is a dirty scumbag.

Made Jankowski sit out as well.
Re: McEvoy . He also had that reckless stick that caught Hathaway up high. Mc Avoy was also going fo a late hit on Hathwaybat the same time.
Kassian got a suspension for the same thing when he did that in Vancouver.

I love that Boston fans are pretty much the same as Flames fans.
-complain about the goalie
-complain about the PP
-sky is falling after one loss
-complain that players always get their first goal against their team

I agree Peters is looking great, and he made a great challenge, but there is nothing to suggest Gulutzan would save his challenge. He might not have used timeouts like many wanted, but he did challenge offside and goalie interference.

Another Hathawin. Anyone have our record with him in? Has to just be a coincidence, no?

Hathaway was in the lineup when the Flames blew it down the stretch last year, so it's probably pretty similar to the Flames record in general.

Scoring Winger
|
I don’t mind the hit. It was a bang bang play I don’t think the bruins player knew the puck wasn’t wth Gaudreau anymore. And the hit wasn’t targeted to the face. That being said, the hit warranted a more emphatic response by the flames to show the league we aren’t going to be pushovers and allow the abuse of our small star player. I am disappointed by the lack of response by the flames. I wouldn’t mind taking an instigator penalty TBH to set a precedent. If I were an opponent I would take the 2 min roughing penalty if it meant debilitating a star player. As someone said before that’s why ferland was so important last year. He was Gaudreau bodyguard. Lindholm or monahan can’t be the that.

If you are playing 80 games without scoring and still put up 20 goals, those other two games are gonna be doozies!
