Even if we were moving Bennett, theres not much of anything interesting on the hand to acquire him for. If we do trade bennett it's got to be for a huge upgrade somewhere.

Help, save, whatever.

Myrtle has an article up saying Nylander is going to sign a bridge deal. 3 to 4 years at 5 million a year would be OK.
4 years is still a long time but after then they probably can't afford to keep him.

2018/2019 Trade Speculation and Rumors

Yeah, I was thinking more in terms of the Flames signing him as a UFA, in the event of which you are probably right. But I think this will potentially be an option with how many goalies it appears will be going to market this year. That is to say, even if the Flames miss out on one of the top-two targets they will still end up with a good player @ three or four.

Sounds like Dubas has gone to Europe to meet with Nylander, must be close.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Watch them sign Nylander, get him back in the line up and go on a losing streak.

Jacob De La Rose, another one from of the 2013 draft. (34th)
(btw, recently discussed JT Compher was taken 35th in the same draft.)

It looks like the Ducks also signed Jake Dotchin as he is on waivers today as well.
Dotchin had his contract terminated by the Lightning after showing up in camp out of shape.

My hope is to see:
Neal-Dube-Czarnik
Frolik-Jankowski-Ryan

Waiver wire players are there for a reason. For every Byron there’s...everybody else

For some reason the Avs have done really well IIRC. Maybe because they have historically gotten a high pick.

Yup!
That is my hope by seasons end.
I like Lindholm on the top line and both Bennett and Tkachuk have proven success with Backs.
It would be nice to have a 2nd high calibre duo to build our 2nd line around, assuming Bennett continues to look like he can reach his potential.
Bennett has been part of Backlunds shutdown line in the past so it wouldn't be anything new. Tkachuk is way more talented than Frolik and has the defensive chops to boot so I could see good things out of the trio.
Backlund is like Lindholm in that he adds an element to the pairing that helps them maintain possession and generate more offense.

Smart move in their situation, imo. Bridge contracts are ridiculous for core players or star players on teams who need star players.
But if you're Toronto and have the incredible talent on offense that you do and are in danger of losing a star to your cap situation, you sign Nylander to as low cap hit as possible for 3 or 4 years, then ship him off for a ransom in the last year or so.

Hmm, I think the bridge deal is more for nylander actually.
Gives him the opportunity to sign again under FA terms with a no-trade, rather than sign longer term for a bit of a discount that jeopardizes that ability to be protected by a no-trade.
IMO if they are looking at signing Nylander to a bridge deal it's a bit of capitulation on the part of the leafs and they will look to move him as quickly as possible for a longer term contract or a defender under RFA status.
Carolina, maybe anaheim are where he ends up IMO.

I’d move him this season at the deadline for a top pairing defenseman.

Do the Leafs have their own board? And is there any poster named "Nylandertime"?
