On the first day of legal weed, my first client of the day is born April 20. Da fuq.
God doesn't just speak through burning bushes. Sometimes he asks you to light them up on your own.

i have read that a package of cigarettes cost less than $2 to produce and sell....yet you go to the store and they exceed $12. We all know the same goes for booze. I expect no less in concern to another controlled substance...why would it be different?
The black market on tobacco has never been as large as it is today, and with an existing industry already established in regards to weed, there will be very little effect on it IMO unless prices are comparable.

Ok I tried to go to 420 Premium Market, however the address that pops up on Google is not their store address. It's their corporate address, which explains all the people aimlessly wandering around Sunterra right now, looking completely lost.
Soooo I didn't get there as their store location is a bit far from work. Cool story bro.

Yep. Booze would be a fraction of the cost if it operated under a free market. But it doesn't. And neither will legal pot.

How many people do you know who buy black market cigarettes? Or booze?
It costs what it costs, and what you're paying for is the safety and security of buying a regulated product from a store.
If it's 8, 9, 10 bucks a gram, whatever. Buy 10g, that'll do most people for months.
I've had a medical card for over a year, so the novelty of 'legal' weed has sorta worn off for me - now that it's legal across the board, it feels like one more thing you can enjoy but shouldn't do too much of.

I have a tinfoil hat theory.
AGLC purposely slow rolled issuing licences for physical shops to force more people to the online store to capitalize on the first rush of hype and charge inflated prices to generate extra revenue for the gov.
Thanks Notley.....

Problem with that is their product is not special, unique or only available through them. In fact that could have the opposite effect and have people turned off due to the high prices and just stick with whatever they've been doing prior.

I was going to go tanning at California Tan today (Yeah, yeah... skin cancer blah blah...) but forgot the dope store opened right beside it. The line went around Tutti Fruitti corner to Willow Park Wine and beer store. From the looks of the cloud hanging over the line it looks like some people already bought some. Looking at the crowd, you'd think it was a line up to a Guns n' Roses concert. So no tanning for me for a few days I guess. I just kept driving.

I don’t really think people looking at the online store the first day and going “Errrr, no, I will now forget legal cannabis forever” is a concern that bares any significance.
Brand new industry. Lots of big developments and newsworthy things coming in as it grows. I don’t think the people truly turned off today matter.

A buddy of mine just went through the line at the 420PM store at Southland. Bought 22 grams total from various vendors and his bill came out to $331 including all taxes. Definitely a significant mark-up over MOM.

At least you just kept driving and didn't cast any judgement.

No judgement. I'm all for it. I don't partake (I did enough in my youth) and I've been to a couple of GnR concerts It reminded me of a story my dad told about when BC dropped the drinking age down to 19 from 21 back in the day. He said it was a bit of a ####-show but it did die down after a bit, which I suspect will happen after everyone gets their taste.

Your association of marijuana with G&R is troubling.
