I would assume they still get compensation anytime Disney te-releases the animated version, which will probably see a special edition released and a spike in sales. As well as whenever they sell the film into other markets/services.

This kind of stuff was a huge factor behind the writer's strike over a decade ago, because writers wanted to ensure they got compensation for their work being delivered over the internet in yet to be defined services. Media being distributed differently was on professional writers' minds in 2007-2008. I can totally get how the idea of a live action (merged with CGI) version of a traditional animated movie never occurred to anyone in 1992. I could even see how a 3D computer rendered animation movie version wouldn't have even occurred to them in 1992.

What about the Broadway musical version of it? I'm guessing that would be under the same umbrella of "not an animated movie" but haven't seen there be any concerns raised there?

Looks like the same folks who wrote the music and songs for the animated version were tapped to write additional songs for the Broadway adaptation.

I'd imagine the writers of The Lion King would have wanted a slice of the broadway version. It is one of the most successful musicals of all time.

Venom with a strong 2nd weekend now up to $140 and $380mill world wide.
I heard that Kraven the Hunter will be the 3rd film for Sony's universe after Morbious.

So it cant be as bad as people were saying, those are pretty respectable figures for a standalone film.

It sounds like it just caught a lot of people off guard. It's supposedly got a lot of weird venom style jokes. A lot of the comic fan YouTube reviewers seem to like it, but it's probably not a film for everyone.
Edit:. Venom hasn't opened in China yet either. Spiderman is crazy popular there. Should add at least another 100 mil to the take. Venom could end up doing over 700 million, which is pretty great for a movie with a 100 million budget.

Venom was bad and dumb in a fun way. It could have and should have been better but a part of it works. Hopefully they build on that for the sequel.
Also the post credit scene. Did not expect to see that actor in that role.

I agree Venom wasn't a masterpiece. But it was a good time. I liked the way they shot it, and Tom Hardy was pretty good as usual. I think it sets up nicely for him to be portray Venom again.

I liked it.
Honestly Marvel is starting to wear me out for comic book movies, something I never thought I would say. They have a great formula but Ant-Man and Dr. Strange.. to me.. it was just the same thing we've already seen multiple times before with less interesting characters.
I like that Sony did something different. It's a completely different style of movie and a different pace and for that I give them a lot of credit. You can try and emulate Marvel like DC did and fail, looking even worse in the process, or go a different direction.

Fans of Warner Bros.’ so-called DC Extended Universe of films may have to get ready to move on. When it first launched, the shared cinematic universe of superheroes was built around Henry Cavill’s Superman, who debuted in 2013’s Man of Steel, and Ben Affleck’s Batman, who clashed with the Last Son of Krypton in 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, now that the studio’s first milestone has been reached with 2017’s Justice League, it now appears as if it will be cleaning house in order to start fresh.

I think this is good news. What they are doing isn't working.. the problem is they won't do it properly and start totally from scratch due to Wonder Woman so I have a feeling in the next few years we will still be having a conversation about how bad DC is. What a mess.

I think DC will wait on Aquaman and WW 2 to decide whether or not to totally reboot things. I can't see them abandoning those characters, if they're successful.
Whatever happens, recasting Cavill and Affleck is a good move. Cavill has zero personality. What made the Reeves Superman great was his solid depiction of both a nerdy Kent and a charismatic Superman. Cavill isn't able to pull of either of those characters successfully.
Affleck is too Affleck. I find him very distracting in that role, and all I see is Affleck.
With Flashpoint, DC will have a lot of options, if things are successful. If things don't go well with Aquaman and WW2, I see DC focusing more on one shots.

I don’t think WB will reboot the DC Universe because it makes too much money. They have released 5 films over 3 years, and in those 3 years those films finished #1 (2013) #1 & #2 (2016) & #1 & #3 (2017) for WB in domestic box office gross. WB is a business first and foremost, why would they kill the golden goose?

Because its about short term 'smash and grab' versus long term sustainability.
Look at Infinity War, its the culmination of over 10 years worth of work.
Add them all together for net profits and guess who made more money.

That's a good point. WB also, unlike Disney, didn't have to pay $4 billion dollars for the license to their movies.

That's unfair comparison because the MCU has 20 films and DC has 5. Take the first 5 movies of each universe and I think the results will surprise you. DC $1.5 billion vs Marvel $1.1 billlion of domestic box office gross.
There's enough room for both to coexist and thrive in theaters, it's not sports where if one wins the other loses.

I think your on point Re rebooting cavil and affleck.
But Gadot is a 100% home run as Wonder Woman. I can't see them rebooting her.

Alright so I watched Ant-Man and Wasp tonight, is this the worst Marvel movie to date in the current MCU? This movie was a total swing and a miss for me. Not to say there weren't entertaining parts, but there was so many "Why don't they just do this" moments it felt like the movie itself was poorly written.

This is a fair point, if there is one thing you can't argue it's the numbers. DC has characters people like, arguably more popular characters (at least before the current string of Marvel movies). It also has a track record of pretty good films (minus bat nipples) prior to this current string.
Hell even Suicide Squad *grossed a boat load of cash, lol. I think the net total is about 400 mill world wide.
