This is just awful. I feel sick to my stomach. Along with her parents & family, my heart goes out to the first responders and the train operator. No doubt many lives are changed today.

Oh please. It was initially reported as a 6 year old and being a parent of a child that was hit by a car it really hit a nerve. This is why we have forums in the first place is to discuss. It was corrected but it's not like the parent of the child will be reading this thread and worrying what we think.

also the south line is a little more of a challenge as you have two lines for the c-train, and a line for CP running parallel - so you have three lines to cross. i coudl see where a child would get rattled being in the middle of all that train action.
i ride my bike across the lines at chinook a lot due tot eh location of my office. i know once i was looking at a freight train crossing, and almost rode across in front of the c-train.

i would note that the parents, especially the one that dropped the child off, will likely be tortured forever by guilt/second guessing.

Sure its the pedestrian at fault, it's just trains could maybe travel at a speed where braking could be performed to prevent hitting somebody.

if you do that, you might as well not have trains at all.
nobody is going to take a train that runs at 10 km/h through every crossing.

Well you can't really say that for sure.
So there are two options really....1) Not comment, shouldn't effect your life in anyway or 2) say how bad of a decision you think it was and come off as a bit of a dick and add to their grief/guilt.
Call me crazy but maybe it's better to not comment on it, but hey whatever floats your boat.

Well why have forums then if we aren't going to comment?

Some things really don't need to be commented on? Perhaps show a little empathy in the event parents or family members are reading this.
Find something else to pass your time with?

Something going on at/near Erlton Station now.
From 660News Traffic: A crash involving the CTrain & a pedestrian has traffic tied up at the south end of the Stampede Grounds at Macleod Trail & 25th Avenue.
News just updated - this is a fatality also

Disagree. If the child was 6 years old I would stand by the comments.
Look there's a tragedy here where the child's age was incorrectly stated. I'm not going to apologize for my comments based on the news report being incorrect. I don't want to side track this thread anymore because a girl lost her life but please stop with the self-righteous talk on a discussion forum. If you don't like to hear other people's views and opinions of various topics you are kind of sniffing up the wrong tree here.

While it is almost certainly true that parents would not be reading CP right now, it seems every time there is some kind of horrible tragedy of this nature, the thread will quickly devolve into sniping between people judging the circumstances and people just wanting to express sympathy for something very sad.
Very tiresome.

You don't like that I disagree with you and think your comments aren't needed? It's a forum, if we comment here where can I comment?

yeah the fact the girl was 10 and not 6 drastically changes my opinion on the parents. 10 is old enough that id let my kids get home from school alone, so how can i judge these parents?
my whole body and heart aches for this poor child and parents. what a ####ing tragedy.

A child dying is very sad. I couldn't imagine being in that position.
However, I have a hard time feeling sorry for older people that get hit by trains. Its literally the easiest thing in the world not to be hit by one. Kids I sort of understand because they don't know better.

You don't often find yourself between closing crossing arms. I am sure it's scary. Maybe people around were yelling, causing some disorientation.

Has there ever been two separate pedestrian fatalities on the same day before with the C Train? Coincidence I know, but I don't recall this in the 21 years I have lived here.
