Ekholm plays against other teams' best players. He plays 20-25 minutes a game. He plays nearly 3 minutes per game killing penalties.

He is not sheltered.

Just give up, to BigTuna any player not in a leafs jersey is overrated and/or not as good as their Toronto equivalent.

Why is this person being allowed back? They contributed nothing but trouble.

I thought Reilly was public enemy number 1 after the playoffs last year?

Either way, I'd think the preds add something in that deal. Not much though, given how much nylander wants.

Canes would be good partners too.

Nashville needs more scoring. There's no cup with those forwards.
Nashville has a lot better chance at the Cup with their elite D corps and depth of quality forwards than you do with your elite forwards and well below average D contingent.

Not to mention Nashville was #8 in goals for, last season

Just bizarre takes from BigTuna today

With Ekholm's cap hit his Trade value would be sky high to a team like TML. There is no way the Preds would add to that trade. IMO at his 3.75 cap hit the Leafs would be lucky to get a 1 for 1 there.

I dont see Nashville trading Ekholm though.

I think you are confusing him with Gardiner. Rielly was good.

Personally, I kind of like having BigSmoke here, as it is a pretty accurate interpretation of what Leaf fans really do believe. As long as the threads don't get too derailed. In this instance everything is still pretty on topic.

It would actually be a pretty big 'get' for Toronto to acquire Ekholm. His salary is one of the best values in the league for the next four years, and would slot in as the #2D.

It would solve (to some extent) next years cap hell for Toronto. On Nashvilles side, Nylander would likely accept <6M a season with the improved tax structure in that State.

Exactly. It’s a 1 for 1 deal purely because of cap. No way Nashville adds. Nylander will likely get 7-7.5 range, double Ekholm salary. If Toronto could get this done it’d be huge for them from both a defensive outlook and from a cap outlook. This is the ideal trade for the leafs imo.

Disagree - sans Ekholm, they still have two Norris threats and Ryan Ellis. You don't need four insanely good defensemen, you need one or two. Past a certain point, the money is better spent on forwards and goalies.

The problem with too many elite D is that you can't put any more than two on the ice at the end of the game when your season is on the line. Ekholm isn't replacing a forward, he's not going out ahead of Subban or Josi, and even if he was, he'd be 90 feet away from the net.

Nylander immediately becomes one of the four best forwards on the Predators, and Ekholm immediately become one of the two best defensemen on the Leafs.

I would do Nylander for Ekholm straight across if I were both teams. Each player fills a glaring need.

Nashville has made the SCF and then won a president's trophy with their top 4 D. Ekholm-Subban is probably the best D pairing in the NHL, or at least right there with Vlasic-Karlsson. They will find other avenues to improve their forward core without messing with the one thing on their team that is working.

Please reread the discussion between Big Smoke and I again. You have taken my argument completely out of context.

The proof is in the pudding. See results.

See GranteedEV s response, as it reiterates mine.

Was there some notable reason for a ban?

He is a returning, banned poster under a different handle who is constantly derailing threads with arguments about the Toronto Maple Leafs and doesn't make a single useful, positive contribution to the board as a whole. Unless posters are going to do more than engage in apologetics and propaganda about another team they don't really have a place here at CP.
