I just don't get this. Certainly not in this situation. Gudbransson does not have a reputation as a dirty player, and he already "answered the bell" so to speak for his hit on Dube. But beyond that, it sounds like he also actually reached out to Dube after the game and apologized. It seems to me that this issue is settled, and unfortunately for the Flames they have lost a player as a result. But I don't see what good purpose inserting Prout into the lineup serves.

Andersson played with Gio during pre-season I thought?

Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Brodie
Valimaki - Prout

Wouldn’t have thought trading kulack a few days ago would have put us one injury away from 3 rookie Dmem after game 1.

That bottom pairing looks bad. Guaranteed goal against.

This.

Just because Gudbranson is big doesn't make him dirty or a bad guy. He's a very high character individual actually. Just an unfortunate incident. I don't think he meant to do any significant harm to Dube.

Valimaki was the goat on the opening goal. Set the tone for the game.

Andersson is likely more NHL ready. There are very few D-Men that are NHL ready at Draft+2

The Saturday game will be the last game for a while where the Flames will be be favored to win.

Preds, Blues, Avs, Bruins, Preds

Not quite a must win against the Canucks but they need some points out of the first 7 games.

They have to play the player that give them the best chance.

I really wish they would have used the exhibition season to set the top lines and focus on the NHL squad and a fast start. A lot harder to get 100 pts in 75 games than 82.

If the Flames dress Prout and show their retribution plan watch out for the Canucks getting 7 PP.

Again, why would you insert Prout and sit Stone?

Did Andersson play every game with Giordano? I don't recall. Even still I would be reluctant to line him up on the top pairing in his first NHL game this year, still in his rookie season. I think because Andersson is not a great skater that he could be better sheltered playing with Hanifin.

I wonder if Andersson will get and powerplay time? That would certainly add a positive wrinkle to what was the worst aspect of the Flames game on Weds.

Andersson and Gaudreau were passing it around pretty good on the power-play.

What happens on Saturday when Gudbranson makes another questionable hit?
Who is going to step up and fight him then? Or will the Flames play scared at the Dome too?

Should be:
Hanifin - Stone
Valimaki - Prout

Rasmus sits this one out until the Flames go on the road.

No Prout. This is the same crap that had the Flames playing guys like Tanner Glass last year. Lets play the best hockey players.

There’s almost a 0% chance Stone sits in favor of Prout. Sure, Stone’s overpaid but he is still far and away a better player than Prout. The fact that Prout is a middleweight fighter doesn’t suddenly trump the attributes that Stone is far better at. If Prout does draw into the lineup in all likelihood it’ll be at Valimaki’s expense. But I still doubt it.

Gio - Brodie
Hanifin - Andersson
Valimaki - Stone

I say sit Andersson for tomorrows game and insert Prout. Then Andersson in lineup for Tuesday against Nashville.

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Prout
Valimaki - Stone

or

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Stone
Valimaki - Prout

Why would he do that? He's not a dirty player, and by all counts was apologetic about what happened. It seems silly to me that the team should go into tomorrow's game in anticipation of the worst case scenario. If Prout plays tomorrow it signals revenge, not deterrence. I think that would be a huge mistake.

Yep, Prout slots in and goes at Gudbransson early to set the tone that #### like that wont be tolerated this season. Andersson can slot in next game, its not the end of the world.

I'd also turn Neal, Bennett and Tkachuk loose on the Petterson hits all night long. No need to be dirty but finish every check and make the kid feel what its like coming into our barn.

That dirty hit and fight set the tone from the start for Vancouver and they rode that momentum the whole night. Lets repay the favor tomorrow night and show them that this season liberties on our small/young guys wont be taken lightly.

What about separating Gio/Brodie to help stabilize the other pairings?

Some adversity to start the season, let’s see how they react.

Get Prout to set the tone vs Gudbranson next game, can’t let this #### slide.

I'd have Prout in tomorrow's game. He doesn't have to fight to prove his worth. Just be a deterrent.
