My point is certain teams are thinking we don't have team toughness. I'm bringing this point up. If you don't like it don't read it. I'm not here to please you.
And it wasn't the Oilers boards. It was one of Canada's main sports websites.

Brutal. Was hoping the lack of toughness issue would be an issue later in the year, not game frigin 1. I expect zero retribution tomorrow night.

you're not here to please me, but your point read as the usual Edmonton hatred, not other teams viewpoints of the flames toughness.
I don't think it's certain fan bases that believe Calgary lacks team toughness. I think it's all of them.
question is do you feel it's accurate?

I expect ample retribution tomorrow in the form of a big win on the strength of a couple power play goals.

The Flames had Dalton Prout last year too (7 seasons experience with Blue Jackets & Devils) + Luke Gazdic (4 seasons experience with Oilers & Devils) but never called them up once.

Based on Wednesday night, I don't expect that either. But if we are going to get retribution, a giant ass kicking on the scoreboard is preferred.

Well, they tried to get retribution and failed. I see no reason for Gudbranson to scrap any other guys. It's over, Flames had their chance....move on.

it was a poorly timed hit followed by an apology ... does their really need to be retribution? Dube is fine.

I'm not sure yet to be honest. Besides Guddy on the Nucks, they don't seem to have anyone else that I would feel very intimidated by if I was on other teams. If we call up Prout or Peluso, I don't think we would be very different from a lot of other teams in the toughness Dept.
And yes I do dislike the Oilers quite a bit. Sure other teams may be thinking the same thing, but I hear it most from Oiler fans.

As others are saying, a butt kicking on the scoreboard is much more preferred.

I guess Trevling was on the Fan960 and said it seems like Hamonic "will miss some time". So I guess it is broken

This is what happened to Dube. Result is a 2 minute penalty and a team looking for revenge.
The NFL is not the model but some of the things you can do in hockey within the rules of the games are ridiculous. That includes fighting.

The hit really pissed me off. There was some head contact, and it was away from the puck. Hits like that should be 5 and a game. That's how you get rid of garbage like what Gudbranson did. That's how you protect players from concussions.
Instead, not only do you have Dube at risk thanks to the dirty hit - but you then expose Hamonic and Gudbranson to further brain trauma because the rule didn't properly discipline the player in the first place.

It doesn’t matter if the power play scored or not, Hamonic was still going to stand up for Dube and he was still going to have his jaw broken.
As a coach, you have to understand the rules, the culture, the players on both teams and prepare for situations like what happened.
It was stupid of Peters to not have been prepared and to put Hamonic in that position. Hamonic had no choice, in his mind, given what happened last year, given the situation with a rookie, he had to do what he did.
The fault lies here with Peters for putting Hamonic in that position. Peters went into a gun fight with a knife and now he’s lost one of his top defenceman and all you haters of toughness now get Prout for an extended period instead of just two games to start the season.
It’s all fine if you want fighting out of the game, the problem is, it’s not and you have to prepare and make line up decisions that reflect the potential condions of a game. Hamonic could not “just let it go”, it would destroy the team bond and chemistry that they wanted to build. They can’t talk about sticking up for each other all training camp and then not respond when that happens to a rookie and no, scoring on the power play would not have been a measured response.

I am curious to know what you think Peters should have done differently to either diffuse or address the situation.

Two things:
1. I understand that fighting and "the code" in hockey is something that the vast majority of players believe in, and that these will continue to be part of the game so long as they do. Were it up to me I would get it out of the game now, but we are clearly a long way away from that still. However, I think with each passing generation the appetite for fighting in hockey becomes smaller and support among players much less enthusiastic. The day IS coming when fighting will be banned from the NHL, and I think we will see it in our lifetime. It is a safety concern, and I see no good reason to continue to delay the inevitable.
2. Scoring on the powerplay would not have been a measured response? Come on. Of course it would have. Had the Flames scored on their first powerplay, they would have had a lead in the first period. The Canucks would have continued to be on their heels, and the entire complexion of that game almost certainly looks completely different. Scoring on the powerplay likely would have led to a different outcome, and the point of the game is to win. Had the Flames scored on their first pwoerplay, I would bet they would have scored on another, and would probably have won the game.

So we're just going to overreact to everything this year?
Just trying to get on the same page.

So you're going to just mock the overreactions? Typical.
Funny thing is, people are acting like Hamonic can't fight. Try a search on the YouTubes. Thing is, when you're throwing fists at faces, jaws are gonna get broke from time to time. At least it wasn't a Todd Fedoruk situation.

The Flames also announced that defenceman Travis Hamonic has been placed on the IR, retroactive to October 3rd, with a facial fracture (week-to-week).
