So they can if they want to.

I think that some players become slightly more valuable if they have roster flexibility like that. Some other team might want him as a call up option but have a 23 guys they like on their roster. That way they don't have to expose him to waivers, or keep him up indefinitely.

If Stone is moved I see the pairings breaking down as follows:

Giordano | Brodie
Hanifin | Andersson
Valimaki | Hamonic

That's an established or potential #1 defenseman on every pairing.

That's some pretty good drafting by Tod Button and crew.

Carolina and Buffalo had priority over the Flames.

Exactly, but it probably should be noted that they only have 30 days to do so, and then after that the player would have to clear waivers again to be sent down.

I imagine Lazar, is up for now because he has the most NHL experience in case someone needs to slot in for lingering injuries (*cough* Tkachuk *cough*). That means he has 30 days to prove he belongs, or he might become a piece in a trade after that 30 day window expires. Just a hunch.

Between Lindholm, Neal, Czarnik, Ryan Hanifin, Dube and Valimaki, as well as the coaching chages....I'm pretty excited to watch this team.

Please don't let me down fellas.

He would gain a ton of confidence playing with our top prospects as part of the go to group.
Snipe from the first page, but I'm willing to bet that this lineup would have a pretty good chance of putting up more points than Vancouver this year.

If they were in the same league.

Also Giordano, Hathaway and Rittich were all undrafted players that the Flames signed, so you could kind of lump them in with the drafted players as '8th rounders'.

Other thought I just had looking at the schedule - Flames play 4 out of first 5 on the road, then have 3 days off after the 13th. Perhaps they keep the extra depth until the break, then make roster changes? Heat also have a break from 13th to 20th, so it is a good time to shuffle rosters
