Oilers sign Alex Chiasson (1yr, 1 way, $650k)

In the wake of EDM signing defenceman Jason Garrison to a one-year, one-way $650K contract, forward Alex Chiasson is expected to sign a contract with EDM with the same terms.

Chia is like me on Thursday morning in my fantasy football pool when i realize i missed waiver pickup day, I scan my roster and see half my players are "Questionable", and i start adding Frank Gore and other crumbs out of the FA pool that others have left behind.

Good for Chiasson. One more year in the show and he isn't a bad player.
Gives an honest effort and can be a really good 4th liner/PKer. He would have been a better option than 3 guys that dressed regularly here in Calgary last season.

Oilers have under 10k in cap space now with 14 forwards, 7 blueliners and 2 goalies.
Next year they have Reider, Poolparty, Rattie, Kharia, as RFA's, Chiasson and Garrison and both goalies as UFA's.
Right now heading into next year they have 15 players under contract, and about 12 million in cap space.
If Rattie has a good season with McDofus, Poolparty has a decent season, and they have to find a starting goalie that's making 3 to 4 million since Talbot will want probably 5 million they're borked.
Borked man.
I can't believe how bad that lineup is and how little cheap help they have coming up from their farm system.

I find the best part of this is that the 'Cup Champs Apparent' Edmonton Oilers are just trying to field enough NHL bodies that they're signing whomever they can to 1-year, 1-way League minimum contracts.
"We're going to win the Cup! But we need a good chunk of our roster to make the least we are legally allowed to pay them!!"
Thats like a Chipotle stand trying for their Michelin star rating.
