As for Deadpool, I'm fine with it because they released the R rating first and then made adjustments. Movies like Venom are being made for the Chinese audience from the get go, and will be neutered because of it. Much prefer the Deadpool way.
I'm not sure what's happening at Fox. The delays might mean that they are watering down the product and need time to do so. I was looking forward to the horror movie x-men film that has been delayed indefinitely. They don't trust their own product, which is weird because of the success of Deadpool.

They are stating that the huge buzz that trailer is getting inspired the move. They think it can get a much bigger box office, particularly in China, in the summer months.
If I'm Disney, I'd be a little upset. Surely they want as much space as possible between the fox X-Men and theirs.
Bizarre to me. If the last few years have shown anything, it's that audiences will come out to see a quality movie regardless of the season, and that movies can struggle in the summer (whether they're good or bad) due to the increased competition.
I don't think Black Panther comes anywhere close to $700m as a summer release. Or Beauty and the Beast at $500m. Or Deadpool at $300m.
Now instead of coming in as the first comic book movie of the year, with basically no competition for three weeks, you sandwich yourself in the middle of MCU mania between Avengers 4 and Spider-Man, and face direct sci-fi/action/comic/family competition from stuff like Johh Wick, Godzilla, Aladdin, the new Men in Black, Toy Story... and your previous franchise installment got bad reviews and barely cracked $150m. This one might not even hit $100m.
I think Fox did it to show Disney what a PG13 Deadpool would look like and also to kinda mess with the competition. Want to undercut Aquaman and Bumble bee. Although I don't know who's going to watch a PG13 Deadpool when you can watch a R rated one at home.
Parents with kids who are hounding them to watch Deadpool.
Also, with the PG-13 version, you'll get this...
I'm pretty sure in today's day and age if your 13-17 years old and you wanted to see Deadpool you probably already have. I found ways to watch tones of R rated movies as a teen and that was before the internet.

Yeah, it's probably not about the 13-17 year-olds who want to see it. It's about the 8-13 year-olds.

I have to say I didn't enjoy it as much as the first. I thought the story was better and its a better movie technically, but I thought the first was way, way way WAY funnier. I barely chuckled during this one.

X-Men movies are doing great overseas. Even apocalypse, which was crap, made fairly substantial profits. It sounds like they're prioritising the Asian markets specifically now.
It still seems like a fairly big deal to push the movie back six months at this stage... After releasing a trailer.
