I have been somewhat surprised about the price for the Flames to win the division. Last year I found one at +1200, and I was hoping that, after how badly last season went, I'd be able to find something similar. No dice so far.

Where did that bet get placed?

So then Vanek was more productive than many others you view as better than Marner.

JVR was more productive than Marner, do I think he's better than Marner?

The division is the Flames to lose imo
But Edmonton will get a top 3 spot.

Pal, this isn't Canadian football, you can't move the goalposts this easily. Your entire thing was talking about how many more points Marner was gonna score this year

I think I might have to give an edge to the Sharks, but I would make an even money bet on the Flames vs. any other team in the Pacific.

Want to bet?

You don't think he will. He spent time on the 4th line and got 69 points at age 20. Now he;'s with Tavares and looking fantastic.

Jesus Christ. This isn't TorontoPuck. You like the Leafs, that's great. But go play on your own street. We don't give a ####.

Even when he was (very briefly) on the fourth line he was on the first unit of the PP.

No.

The pathetic Oilers are not miraculously leapfrogging three teams into a Division playoff spot. It's a four- or five-team race, and Edmonton is most decidedly on the outside looking in. I think they could conceivably finish behind a much improved Arizona team.

Fans do not put $ down on their own team just for the sake of it.
So you are saying that Toronto being the most popular team somehow doesn’t increase the amount of bets placed on them regardless of how good or bad they are.

That’s just stupid.

The concept of public teams is measurable.

Well when it comes to actual money never use your heart to determine a line. I personally like that bet for the Flames, but since they had 84 points and one of the teams below them has McJordan, no way you should take even money for that bet unless it’s Vancouver or Arizona.

This is correct. I guess before I go inviting action, I should ask if making bets with other board members against any forum rules?

Then please explain every other Leaf season with Vegas odds. Why are the Leafs always so low EXCEPT for this year? Could it be because they had 105 points and added Tavares and Matthews/Marner/Nylander were all 21 and under last season.

Come on, if the Panthers had that same roster they are the favs as well.

Oh Look, when the Leafs sucked 2 years ago, they were 29th in odds:
Anaheim Ducks 99.5
Arizona Coyotes 78
Boston Bruins 91.5
Buffalo Sabres 86.5
Calgary Flames 88.5
Carolina Hurricanes 78.5
Chicago Blackhawks 102.5
Colorado Avalanche 87.5
Columbus Blue Jackets 85
Dallas Stars 103
Detroit Red Wings 88.5
Edmonton Oilers 88.5
Florida Panthers 98
Los Angeles Kings 98.5
Minnesota Wild 93.5
Montreal Canadiens 98
Nashville Predators 97
New Jersey Devils 85.5
New York Islanders 94
New York Rangers 94.5
Ottawa Senators 82
Philadelphia Flyers 90.5
Pittsburgh Penguins 102.5
San Jose Sharks 100.5
St. Louis Blues 100.5
Tampa Bay Lightning 105.5
Toronto Maple Leafs 79.5
Vancouver Canucks 76.5
Washington Capitals 106
Winnipeg Jets 85

Vegas odds ARE NOT increased due to fanbase size. That's ridiculous. You are trying to find a lame excuse for the Leafs to be that high. They are good. End of story.

Oh but the fun! You're not wrong, but I figure if any bet actually gets made between internet strangers, it would need to be a pretty small amount. Say $10 or $20.

Oilers were the beat team on paper last season? Odds are adjusted based on what people are voting on. Media and fans are a factor. Obviously even delusional fans weren't putting their money down on the Leafs when the organization/media was telling them it's a rebuild.

If you want to make a +650 bet on the Leafs winning the cup be my guest...it's a terrible bet.
